Need a new formula for a black bmw

I'm relatively new to detailing and obsessed with the appearance of my car. I had previously used Imperial Hand Glaze and Blitz wax and liked the results, but I am now looking for something that will produce a deeper/wetter look. I live in Kansas City and wax the car once a month in warmer weather and whenever the opportunity comes up during the winter. I was considering the Zaino lineup but would like appreciate any opinions.

For a black car my vote goes to P21S paint cleanser and wax combo. Here are the pics of Ripsnort's 330Ci with it:

As you say that, and I completly agree with you, I know that the max prep one could do would start somewhere on the wet sanding, though it's not usual.



So it leave us a, let's say 4 stage prep. Clay, fine cut, med polish, fine polish. This is what's the prep, isn't it? if then you glaze it or go to a wax or sealent or both it's another part isn't it?



Or, is it the prep considered just clay, polish, and seal or wax?

I really like Souveran wax and or P21S wax. Souveran really seems to darken the paint and leaves a wet, liquidy look.



If you are worried about protection in the winter, use a sealant, (AIO, Platinum Ultymate Paint Protection, Blackfire or Poorboy's new upcoming sealant EX), first and then top with Souveran for a wetter look and P21S for a more reflective look. From what I hear, Poorboy's EX looks pretty wet and deep by it self. :xyxthumbs

I recently did some comparison testing of Blackfire2, Zaino, Platinum, and Klasse, both on my well prepped Jet Black BMW with 30+ coats of Zaino, and on another car with 27 y.o. neglected orange paint.



BF2 gives a “sparkle� equal to Zaino and Platinum, but has more depth and wet look. It can be successfully topped with carnauba. One drawback is that it leaves a little oily film on the surface. If this film is washed off then it looses most of the depth and wet look. If topped with carnauba it’s great!



Platinum UPP has great sparkle and lacks the depth and wet look of BF2, but has some depth and wet look. Very slight oily residue visible on the black paint, not visible on the orange paint - - maybe because of the color, maybe because the old non-clearcoated paint absorbed the oils. Also tops well with carnauba.



Zaino has sparkle equal to or maybe very slightly better than BF2 or PUPP, but lacks depth and wet look. Is very difficult to top with carnauba without getting smudges!



Both BF2 and PUPP gain a lot of depth and wet look when topped with Souverän!



Klasse HGSG is behind all the others in sparkle, and behind BF2 and PUPP in wet look and depth. Much harder to buff off than the others.

What up Blake!! It's good to see a fellow Kansas City Black BMW Autopia member!! Right now I am using 3M SMR for dark cars, Pinnacle Paintwork cleaninsing lotion, Klasse AIO, Klasse SG, then Souveran then P21S. I've got a big ClearKote order coming, so I will have some stuff to try.



BTW: If you're interested, we are having a meet this Saturday (8th) at 1:00 at Hooters on Metcalf. Love to see you out there. I've got a black 325 w/ quite a few mods, if you decide to come, let me know.

AMP99 is in some ways too modest. He once credited his photography skills...No way! It is just expert detailing work!:xyxthumbs

Hey Greg!

I didn't check back on the forum until 5:30 or I would of stopped by hooters this afternoon. I was hoping to spend the day giving the car a nice wash and wax as it was forcasted to be as high as 65 earlier this week. I guess now I have some more time to research a few products.



I am by no means experienced at all with detailing and just now stepping in to the shallow waters so I think I may purchase the P21S paint cleanser and wax combo.



I also need to purchase some micro fiber towels for the process and was wondering who had the best deal on the net (or in town)?

-- On second thought, what would be recommended in conjuction with the IHG and Blitz wax to remove light scratches?

In other words, if you don't have a good camera, you can't take a good picture.

Yes, but the camera quality is the smaller of two factors. The other and larger factor is the photographer’s skill and technique!

Blake, it's all good that you didn't check until later. We meet quite a bit, so check that Midwest forum on DTM and there is always something going on. I would talk to Ranney or Pakshak on here and he will get you a great deal on MF towels. You can go down to the local Harley dealer and get their S100 GEPC and Wax, same stuff as P21S and it's cheaper :). Anyway, if you ever need any help with detailing or anything BMW related, drop me a line and I'd love to come out and help ya. Take care.

A good camera is only part of the equation. When ever I take a picture, the object must look good or great to me before I take the picture. I also take many different shots of the same object or scene. When ever I can, I also use a tripod. I am using a Canon G2 digital camera with wide angle and telephoto add on lenses and if need be, a Canon external flash.



I really am quite a novice about photography but I have learned alot faster with a digital camera than I would have learned with a regular camera. You can see the outcome of any change in angle, lighting, lens, camera setting, etc, so much faster than with a regular camera. I don't think I will ever go back to a regular camera.



Take alot of pics and notice what works and what doesn't.



There is also an Automobile Photography forum on this site that has great ideas and suggestions as well.

Thanks for the tips and for pointing me toward the Automobile Photography forum! As a newbie to Autopia I hadn't discovered it yet.
