Need a little help

Hey all,

Been reading this forum for some time now and finally decided to jump into detailing my vehicles. Although, I work at a lot and can get it done cheap, I have always been more of a DIY type of person. Plus, I have seen their work (in their defense, they are told to get em in and out fast). Anyway, before I start rambling, these are the things I am considering.

Makita 9227

udm or meguiars g-110

Was thinking about just getting a Flex at first(being a beginner), but cost is close for the two. not sure what is best option.

Menzerna sip

menzerna 106ff or 3m ultrafine se

clearkote pink, or red, or danase wet glaze

clearkote moose wax

meguiars w-66 backing plate

meguiars solo pads – heavy, light wool and the foam pads

Cars I will be working on are:

1993 maxima tan – my guinea pig

2001 explorer tan

2005 seirra black

2005 g35 black

I already have clay, towels, buckets and so on. Although I’ve read a lot of good things about Menzerna, it may be to expensive to practice with.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks

I know you all get these product suggestions all the time and maybe I need to be more specific about what I am trying to accomplish. From all I read, Infiniti's paint can be tough to deal with. So my goal is to work my way up to the g35. The products i've chosen are mainly for the g.

So my question is, would the products I selected work well for the g? If you were going to work on a black g today, what would you use? Assuming moderate swirls. Thanks all

POLISHER:

I'd pick up the UDM as its safer for you to learn on and will handle probably everything you can throw at it, albeit a little slower than a rotary. I use the LC 7.5" Orange Cutting Pads, and the 6" White Polishing and Black finishing pads.

SWIRL REMOVAL:

I like Hi-Temp's line, and could probably use the Medium Cut and the Light Cut to remove the typical swirls I see on most cars. The Heavy and Extreme Cuts are more for serious scratches. Hi-temp happens to be probably the cheapest you can find, and it works great. I don't have much experience with Menzerna, so I'll let someone else chime in on them.

GLAZE:

You can't go wrong with any of the glazes used frequently on here. RMG, Danase Wet Glaze, CG EZ Creme Glaze or WMF, etc. If you want to use a sealant, however, stick with Danase or CG. A wax will bond to all glazes, sealants are more picky. If you're only picking up one, I'd choose a glaze that works for both.

SEALANTS and WAXES: Again, you can't go wrong with anything used on here.

In addition, on black the RMG/CMW looks phenomenal. Natty's blue is also an excellent wax on black.

Thanks for the reply.

I know there are afew people here that have worked on g's. Anyone else care to contribute what they have learned from their experience?

Thanks again xhaust50
