Need a Little Help With Some Mysterious Stains On My Paint

Hey guys...



Yesterday I washed my C6 Corvette and noticed I had some water "spots" that didn't come out. I got out the DA, an orange pad and some Megs UC. I thought I had gotten them out...I mean they were GONE.



I even did an IPA wipedown to make sure nothing was on the paint. I put a layer of Rejex on it and all was well.



So today, after sitting in the sun for a while, I find what you see in the pics.



These are not rough and do not catch on my fingernail but they are all over the top of my driver's side fender and driver's side of the hood.



Any ideas on how to deal with it? Try to buff them out again and see what happens? I have NO IDEA what caused it or why it they came back.

Looks like acid rain, but it's hard to say. Have you tried using a clay bar?

I did clay first...nada. I'm 99% sure it came from a tree/dew that car was sitting under in the early AM while at the gym. I remember coming out and seeing a bunch of drops on the car but not thinking much about it.

Paint defects are either,

• Topical - As in a surface stain, limited to the upper portion of the layer of paint.
  
• Below the Surface - This would be swirls and scratches, also etching and Type II Water Spots.
  
• Matrix Defects - That is the defect is throughout the entire layer of paint.

Topical

If it's topical you should be able to abrade the paint and remove the defect.



Below the Surface

If it's a below surface defect then if it's not too deep you should be able to abrade the paint and remove the defect or at least improve the appearance



Matrix Defects

If it's a Matrix defect then more and more abrading usually won't make the paint look more and more better.

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried a 50/50 distilled white vinegar/distilled water dilution on it yet? This has helped me out with some hard water stains in the past. Dab the solution on the affected areas and allow it to dwell for 30-90 seconds then clean up with some QD. 1-2 applications, more if you start seeing improvement.



Let us know if that does anything. I have a few more ideas, one requires about 6 months of time and the other one...well we'll cross that bridge if need be.

if it's really bad as in nothing works you could have it wet sanded.

it kinda looks like the clear coat is bubbling but hard to tell man i hope not.

Nah don't think the CC is coming up. It looks like it's almost even with the paint. I need to get a closer look and report back. I will try the vinegar/water thing but not holding out much hope.

Here's an update. I played hooky from work and decided to try to get rid of the spots (again).



Washed the hood and fender with blue Dawn.



This time I used an orange pad and SIP. What I was looking out for when spreading the compound was whether or not the oils were making the stains disappear. You cannot tell so well in the photo, but the stains are still visible through the product. Good sign, I guess.

These pics are after a 4x 50/50 IPA wipedown. Looks like they're gone? I see no etching or surface imperfections. None. :getdown

I don't see them anymore.

Pulled her outside and washed with blue Dawn again! :nervous2:

Water is sheeting in the areas I polished telling me the former coat of Rejex is gone. :bigups

After drying with a leaf blower, I see ZILCH. I am confident I've gotten all the carrier oils off the paint.



Last pic is the car with a coat of Rejex. I'm letting it bond for a bit before I go back about my business.



Will they come back? Hmmmmmm....we shall see. :nervous2:

Hello,



I have a 2010 VW GTI (white) with a little problem. I parked the car outside near a tree and came out several hours later to see what appeared to be a greenish colored substance splattered on the rear hatch and bumper. I washed the substance off the next morning (appx 12 hours later) and it left these greenish tan stains on the paint. I have been to the dealer's service department who recommended removing the bumper and repainting. I have visited 3 separate auto-detailing shops in the Minneapolis area and all reached the same conclusion- repaint. The methods they tried included everything from acetone to heavy duty compound which seemed to lighten the stains by about half but they all expressed concern about melting the plastic bumper.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Try starting your own thread, it might yield some better results. Trying to thread-jack a pretty much dead thread isn't going to help you much .
