NAPA Wash Mitts

Mmmph

Mad Detailer
My cotton chenille wash mitts started fraying/tearing at the cuffs recently, so I've been looking around for replacements. I stopped in my local NAPA store and they had some NAPA branded beauties for $5.49 ea. I bought 2 and will try them tomorrow.

Anyone else seen/used these?

According to KEVO, the wash mitts from NAPA pass the "burn" test for 100% cotton content. I'm looking to replace my MF wash mitt which is getting pretty old now...but has served me quite well.

I picked up a 3 pack of sheepskin wash mitts at Sam's Club a week or so ago for $1.92! I know they are made in China but they are super soft and plush... softer than any MF or Chenile mitt I've used. Used one on my truck and it worked fine....no scratches that I could see. Later this evening when I get home I'll put them to the CD test.

They also have a CWB/CCD combo kit for $16.00. Yep, it's the plastic handle duster but for $16.00 for both it's hard to beat(I think I paid $12.00 just for the CWB). Even the mitts....if you only use them for wheels or other stuff they are worth it.

When people talk about sheep skin wash mitts do they mean REAL sheep skin or the simulated kind?

I'm in the Lowermainland (B.C. , Canada) and have been unable to find anything except for the synethic kind (which to my understanding is a bad idea?)

Except for on the web, does anybody know of a place that sells good wash mitts?? I've looked all the places which I can think of and the only place that sells anything other than the synethic mitts was Lorco. Their Chenile mitts (Detailer's choice brand) felt really soft but did have a synethic backing. When I pushed all the "fibers" away, I found it a bit abrasive.....

Hey Jonney, I have just the thing for you! Go to the Walmart at Guildford mall in Surrey - a few weeks ago I saw they still had a bunch of sheepskin wash mitts left there for $6.99 or so each (good price). They were both sitting with all the other towels, sponges and junk, and also sitting in a bin opposite to the spray paint and RV stuff. Go this Sunday! :xyxthumbs

If that fails, the London Drugs in Ladner still has some I think for $9.99 - same brand (Autoshine).

I think it's understood here that people mean real sheep skin with leather on the inside. That's how you really tell, but they're so incredibly soft (before they're used) there's no comparison. Some are softer than others, but it shouldn't matter too much. Simulated wool is shunned here because you don't really know what you're getting. That's why I like real sheep skin - wool is wool.

Thanks a lot!!, I'm going to head over there bright and early tomorrow morning (in fact, I live in the guildford area, the Walmart you are talking about is only 5 mins away from me :)

I got a new dark blue subaru last week and have held off washing it since I didn't have the proper mitt.

If you torch a towel that is 100% cotton is should just leave a powdery ash.

If it has man made fibers it, you will see them curl amd melt and leave melted residue.

I have used the NAPA wash mitts, they are unimpressive in my book. Out of the package they seem impressive, but they thin out quite a bit when wet and reveal the backing material. :down

DON'T BURN THE WHOLE TOWEL!!! :D

Just snip off a small test scrap and burn it on a piece of tinfoil or something to make it easier to see. You don't need much. If you see some resin-like residue on the bottom or have a hard piece of blackened something stuck to the bottom, it's polyester. It also might burn with a slightly sweet smell. Pure cotton burns cleaner to a wispy grey/white soft ash.

You're welcome Jonney, good luck! :)

ShowroomLincoln is right on. I recall this discussion from a few months back. The Viking 100% cotton are far superior to the oversized cotton Napa wash mitts.:nono

Yes, they are plush, but when I burned one of their strands, a little bit of polyester was revealed in the ashes. Has anyone else tried this on a Viking wash mitt?

This is true as far as construction quality goes, but the 100% cotton Viking mit is not available any longer, it has been converted to a 100% man made fiber mit, the mit still looks the same but they changed the hang tag and it no longer reads 100% cotton, all it says now is Chenille, not mention of cotton anything on the package.

I noticed this change about a year ago and the new Viking mits do not pass the burn test.

If you find some Viking mits that still have the words "cotton" on the hang tag, buy them.

The Viking 100% Cotton Mitt is still in production and is still available in some outlets such as CSK, O'Reilly, and Bass Pro. Let your retailer know you want the 100% cotton mitt and not the blend, for they are the ones that do not want to take it.

Viking , this is good news (I currently have the Napa mitt as one of my many, but, still am looking for the viking).:)

I have none of those retailers around me, the only two places in my town that used to sell them are AutoZone and Wal-Mart, and it would be totally useless to try to explain cotton content to anyone that works at either of these places, you would get the "Huh?" answer.

Each of those retailers has a suggestion box. That is where you should let them know. You may think it is a futile effort but retailers such as Wal-Mart do look at those suggestions.

I have three Viking 100% cotton mitts and they are great! I treat them like gold because they are so hard to find at retail stores. I did find a car parts store in Racine, Wisconsin that has some. You can't beat the price on these, either.
