My wheel drama continues

Maybe I did something wrong, but I used Meguires high gloss endurance gel yesterday....wiped off the excess & let the car sit over night......When I drove it this morning, the CRAP that sprayed off the wheels was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! It was over the wheel arches the doors and bumpers.......I thought this stuff didn't spray off.

I have used the low gloss version before, and that wasn't quite so bad, but both these products leave the tyres with a sticky 'caked on' look about them.... Also it is very difficult to get an even look....I find that I have to use several applications to give a uniform appearance.......And it NEVER seems to dry. A week after applying, and I still get black on my hands if I touch the tyres

Tyre shine is the one product that I am not happy with yet...any suggestions???

My ideal tyre shine would be medium to high gloss, that properly dries, so that it doesn't leave any marks, grease etc on my car cover .....this part really pisses me off, because not only does it stain the car cover, it is transfered all over the bodywork when the cover is removed. Finally, no spray off when the wheels rotate....Is this the holy grail, or is there something out there that fits the bill???

I have found that all of the tire glosses need to be wiped with a old rag prior to attempting to drive the vehicle. I tried them all including Meguairs HE. A friend of mine became enraged last week when I told him not to use it anymore ( I advised him to!...OOPS ). I now use Stoner's MSLT (easiest to apply) I spray on about (2) coats and then wipe off any excess about 5 minutes later. I have received a lot of compliments using this stuff. Leaves tires looking new (matte not shiny), and with the extra wiping I don't get that black overspray.

I used to use Hi-Endurance....try applying it with a tire swipe....it works much better. I can't really say that I ever had a problem with the stuff slinging off. I terms of ease of use, I would say that Hi-Endurance was the best out of any product i've ever used.....now EF BO thats another story.

I apply Meguiars Hi GLoss and regular with a tire swipe. I apply two coats with 45 minutes between each coat and let it sit on the tire for an hour. I then come back with a cleran terry cloth and buff it. I finish up all the little details of the car and before the guy leaves, I buff the tire again, no sling, no mess, and a nice medium-high gloss (BMW 323.) I just think its the tires. I use different products for different tires. I have lots of tire dressings and use certain ones on certain tires. Generally I use Vinylex, but for certain cars I use Meguiars, Armour All Extreme tire shine 9works ok), Turtle Wax Wet and Black, and sometimes Ef BO (don't even get me started.)

glad you like the 2001 tire gel. It is also my favorite for a high shine. For a low gloss satin shine, nothing beats the durability of zaino Z16 tire dressing.

I have used the Endurance Gel (even though the stuff smells like Grape Kool Aid) with tire swipes. It works pretty well with the swipes. However, I like using Meguiar's #40 for tire dressing because it gives the same results.

my tires (both cars) have lots of texture to them - it seems this is the current tire "fashion". By texture, I mean entire areas that aren't smooth - they're ridged.

This results in less visible shine, even with a really shiny product (at least I think - even armour all doesn't really "shine" these tires). I put the 2001 on following directions for a "high shine look" and it's still satin looking, just very black, which is what I like.

They say you can buff it off for less gloss, but I haven't tried this yet. and when this runs out, it may be time to try Zaino (especially if I can find out if Z5 will help mask some of my acid rain etching (see other post).

blue skies,

I hate, Hi-Endurance, it leaves an almost permanent resudue and left the tires gummy. Well for, medium tohigh shine with easy aplication and even finish, i say Vinylex is har to beat.

I use McGuires, and I have not had such problems. I think that Jason has a point about the types of tires that people use. I have Pirelli V8000 on my car, which have lots of grooves on the side wall, along with lots of logos. The Mcguires works well on my tires. I have not had the problems BradrdHay has had.

I do not wipe any of the excess off, I simply put it on, and let stand for about 30 minutes. My tires are new, so that might have something to do with the application of the product.

The nice thing about the Zaino Tire Gloss is that it appears to be water-based, so, at least in a temperate climates, the water evaporates and nothing is left to be flung off (at least if you do not drive the car immediately).

I like Zaino tire dressing the best. But it's not perfect either. After a recent droad trip (at admittedly illegal speeds) the Zaino splattered all over the wheel wells and fenders of my car.

I will continue to use it though. It's the most durable.

Brad4rdHay is right....Hi-endurance leaves a residue of gummy crap around the inside of the tires, and you can't get rid of it, unless you deluge it with EF Hi-intensity.

Hook is also right about the tire texture point....it seems that the ridges and such help to hinder the shiny effect.

I dilute the Z16 with 40% water for an even more satin shine and it still lasts at least 3 weeks (washings) before it needs to be reapplied. Nothing worse than a 4x4 truck with ghetto looking tires. ;)

I use the endurance for cars that have stubborn black trim that nothing else will work on. Dont like it otherewise.

I have a guy with a ferarri mondial and it has black trim around the windows and lower panels, he likes them dressed because they are pretty dull and faded, endurance is the only thing I have found to work pretty well on these parts ( and last out in the sun )

So after dealing with Discount Tire and finally getting my wheels replaced, I now have an entirely different issue come up. About two months ago I noticed that the finish on my wheels started to get tiny pits and bubbles in it. Pretty soon, the black chrome finish was flaking off in big chuncks. Man, I was really dreading dealing with the company, so I put it off for a couple of weeks. The person I dealt with at the time was professional, but made me feel like I was a thorn in his side. So one day, I just sucked it and went back. Luckily for me, the prior guys I dealt with is no longer working for them and the guy that replaced him is super cool. I explained to him what the problem was and after giving me a funny look, he asked me to show him what I was talking about. After seeing the problem for himself, he was shocked and said that he never seen that before. He called the American Eagle distributor and told him "I have a customer with a problem. His wheels...". The distributor cut him off and said, "Let me guess...black chrome wheels?" "Yeah. The finish is flaking off." Distributor-"Yeah, I've gotten several calls about this finish. Tell him to pick out a new set of wheels from whichever line he wants and I'll replace the ones he has." SWEET!!! I was so happy to hear that, I almost hugged the guy. So after some research, I've narrowed it down to two or three sets. Praise the Lord that He had His hand in this matter and made it easy for me!! :hurray:

Below are some pictures of the finish failure.

Notice the huge piece of finish that flaked off.
