My Tank Finally Arrived Today

I've been debating for serval weeks now how I'm actually going to plumb my tank on the trailer. I would like to do so in a way that will allow me to turn off the flow to disconnect the pressure washer and/or to fill my Mytee, etc.

I purchased the tank from Detrailers. The supplied nipple is 3/4", however; most garden hoses are 5/8". So I have a couple of choices...

a.) I can stick with the 3/4" size and either find a 3/4" garden hose or use some hose from The Home Depot. The obvious benefit there would be slightly better gpm's.

b.) I can squeeze a section of 5/8" garden hose over the 3/4" nipple. Well, I assume with enough force and a dab of oil it'll go.

As far as disconnecting the hose from the pressure washer, my options range from a simple plug or cap that screws onto the end of the hose to a complicated ball valve set-up. I say complicated because it will actually employ 2 couplers and the ball valve itself. All of those additional connections are possible trouble spots down the road.

So I'm curious... How is everyone else plumbing their tank?

You might be able to find a 3/4" to 5/8" adapter. A 3/4" hose is the easy fix, they are out there.

Thanks. After scouring The Home Depot I came up with a 3/4" set-up all the way. I even got a snazzy little cap to put on the hose so I can disconnect the pressure washer.

I hope my gpm's pick up. I tossed an old 1/2" ID hose on the tank and measured it at just over 1 gpm. With a much larger hose and some more water in the tank I'm hoping to eek out a few more.

How do you get the water from the tank into the pressure washer? Gravity feed or pump?

I'm gravity feeding. I measured the tank's output at just over 6 gallons per minute. Cam Spray says that 5 gpm is sufficient for my 1500A. Using 3/4" hose made all the difference.

how big of a tank are u using? and what cam spray pressure washer do u have?

any chance of posting pics of the setup?

I'm using a 90 gallon tank and a Cam Spray 1500A. I still haven't come up with permenant set up yet but I'll be glad to post pics.

My tank has 2 outlets. I use both of them: one for low pressure, the other for high pressure. Both lines have shut off valves (ball valves).

The low pressure side is used to fill buckets, etc. It saves me from having to mess with my connection going into the pressure washer. The shut off valve on the high pressure side comes in handy because the Cam Spray will burp a little water out if the valve is left open. I was hesitant to install the valve but I'm glad that I did.

I will likely upgrade my supply lines when I find something that I like better.

Here's a shot of the generator and the tank. I have yet to finalize my layout but for the time being, there's about 2 feet of space between them to allow for storage of chemicals, towels, etc.

This shot shows the supply line coming into the 1500A. For ease of access and to keep the pressure washer below the tank, I think I'm going to pull it out for each use and set it up on a milk crate or the like.

Here's a close-up of the shut off valve installed on the low pressure side.

Here's a shot of the high pressure side and where I'm storing my wand and hose...for the time being. Unfortunately, none of the Cam Spray connections are QD's.

Again, it's a work in progress. Once I get all of my equipment where I want it, I'll start working on storage, etc. If it weren't for the electric pressure washer, I'd likely have a Honda EU2000i generator. Then I'd opt for a Honda driven pressure washer. The generator is pretty loud when you're up on it but it's not obnoxious. The Cam Spray 1500A requires a lot of power but it's a quality unit and runs off 120v. That's important in cases where I get to borrow electricity.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them. This site has helped me a lot and I don't mind paying it forward.

Looks great to me bud, Id maybe get some pressure washer quick connects at lowes and make that line easy on/off.. I dont think id of done it much differnt, u seem to have hit both the lines for purposes exactly of what we all do use and need most so im not sure u could have done it much differntly.

How are u liking that electic camspray unit?? can u give me some feedback on that im very intrested in one. how is it working with that tank?.

Is all this in a small box trailer??

I picked up some QD's at The Home Depot on Sunday. Took them back yesterday. As Cam Spray is made in the US, they use different size lines, etc. Everything is SAE and not metric. Northern Tool has some QD's that will likely work. I may try them. As it is, I can disconnect the pressure washer from the supply line in just a few seconds. I just shut the supply line off and the connection itself just unscrews on the pressure washer side.

I'm really liking the 1500A. I'd mention that it's quiet but it's hardly relevant when I'm running my generator. Again, it'll really pay off in situations where I can borrow electricty. It works great with the tank. The first time I used it I experienced some cavitation but ever since then it's smooth and quiet. I've had no problems getting the last few gallons out of the tank.

Since the pictures were taken I lengthened the supply line from the shut off valve to the pressure washer itself. Ultimately though, I think I'm going to shorten the whole set up so that I have just 3 feet of supply line (including the shut off valve) feeding the pressure washer.

Again, work in progress.

Yes, the trailer is a Pace American 4x6. While a little small, I couldn't really fit a 5x8 (or anything larger for that matter) in my garage. I could have gone with an open trailer and been equally has happy but for a professional looking rig that offers the most bang for your advertising dollar, an enclosed trailer can't be beat.

oh snap didnt realize that the quick connects were different sizes! that sucks..ya northern tool seems to be a good store ive ordered quite a bit from them..

Going over some of your posts ive seen uve gone through pressure washers like crazy, I see u have a dewalt 3100 and u dumped it?? I thought they have a Cat pump on em?? Then u bought the northern tool pro with cat pump and Now i see you have a camspray???

So that all said and seeing u have gone through all the better models is this camspray ur using finally the better choice out of em all??

Also i noticed you put they mentioned a 10k watt generator to run the camspray, that seems a bit much to me, your generator looks like a 2000k or maybe a bit higher and u say it runs it fine???

Sorry for the million ??? Ive been on the fence for a pressure washer and am about to the pull the trigger...

The 1500a seems like a great buy but damb they pull 18amps im almost wondering if getting the 1000a 2gpm model would be a better choice for mobile??

I did have the DeWalt 3100 but thought it overkill for doing for the type of work I'd be doing. I then picked up the other pressure washer from Northern. While I was considering what type of pressure washer to get, I kept getting the same response from people, "If you have problems with your pressure washer not getting enough flow from the tank, you can always run a submersible pump." I figured, if I may end up having to run my generator to power a pump, I might as well consider getting an electric pressure washer. So I returned the unit to Northern and ordered the 1500A.

My generator is in fact a 5K unit. Cam Spray did say that I needed a 10K unit. I haven't had any problems running the 1500A off of my generator. I let it run for about 5 minutes before putting any load on it and then let it run for additional 2 minutes before shutting it down.

I think a 1000A might be acceptable but I have no experience with them. I see that it weighs about half as much as the 1500A and it only draws 15 amps which is a huge bonus if you're going with a smaller generator. If you could run a 1000A off of a Honda EU2000i, that would be the quietest set up out there! That's probably a bit of a strain on the generator though as the 15 amps is just below it's rated max (16.6 amps).

ya your logic makes sense man no need to make more noise when not neccessary!

Damb man your reading my mind! ya an electric pressure washer and an invertor generator is exactlly what im shooting for! Ive found a HOTSY pressure washer that looks great as well. Its been recommended here a couple times and it seems like a solid unit at that. The EU2000i or the Yamaha 2400is are the two generator s im looking at. So Im wanting to get a quality pressure washer that will run off it without any problems so im thinking thats where the yamaha generator stands out more im just not sure???

Yeah, the Yamaha seems to be a pretty stout little unit. I too have heard good things about the Hotsy products.

I've had to contact Cam Spray twice now via phone and their customer service hasn't been anything less than excellent. That's always a plus.

Well after beating myself over the head left/right and seeing all the great reviews Ive decided to just go with the 1500A. Top of the line is having a special 570$ shipped so i ordered it last night along with a 90 gal tank from detrailers. Although ill have it in the back of my truck im sure well have a very similiar setup. Thanks for your advice on the camspray Im hoping it lives up to its expectations.

I like making my own rig the way i want and im sure its costing alot less with far superior equipment than buying it all once so im glad to see others are doing the same.

Keep us updated on your progress bud!

$570 is a good price. Detrailers had good prices on their 90 gallon tanks as well. I hope you got a white one otherwise, you'll be waiting forever for Ronco Plastics to make it.
