My take on the Edge Shmitt prototype

CharlesW recently posted a question about using ShMITTs with S&W. While my earlier experiment with S&W and a white/yellow ShMITT on paint didn't produce very good results, I decided to put Charles question to the test this weekend.

The answer is "sometimes". That is you can sometimes use S&W with a ShMITT on wheels and tires. The white/yellow version works pretty well. It still requires a follow-up with an absorbent towel, but the scrubbing action of the yellow foam (on the back of the white/yellow model) did a better job on tires than a towel alone. On the other hand, the black/black and yellow/black models did not fare as well as the white/yellow due to the stiffness of the foam. The mitts cannot be softened by saturating with water if they are to be used with S&W. The water would dilute the product too much. However, the rinseless washes like Optimum NRWS, Protect All QEW, and DP 4-in-1 can be used with the black/black and yellow/white models since they can be dunked and softened in the buckets. I personally plan to use a ShMITT with rinseless washes on my wheels and tires this winter.

Note: After the ShMITTs design is changed to use wave patterned yellow and black foam, we will need to revisit Charles's question. It is my guess that the waves will result in foam that is more easily deformed (can be folded and squeezed into smaller spaces).
