My Sonus DAS FlexPlate split in two!

Hello, I was referred to here from one of my fellow members at S2KI.com about a strange thing that happened. I was polishing a car this past weekend and noticed the PC was vibrating more than usual on speed 6, enough to make my hands really uncomfortable. When I finished with SFX-1 and the yellow pad I moved on to SFX-2 and the white pad. After some time i could see the pad rotate very smoothly on the PC, but I noticed bits of yellow pieces flying everywhere. I was wondering where this could be coming from since the pad was white? Then all of a sudden, this happens:

The metal plate was too hot to touch for about 15-20 minutes.... I know there must've been something I was doing wrong. How can something like this happen in the first place? Was I using too much pressure? Were the pads not exactly centered on the backing plate?

The very first thing... let's get you a new backing plate. It is possible the backing plate itself had a defect and was causing virbration. We get about 10-15 out of 1,000 failures. It looks like you may have one of them. Please email support@theperfectshine.com with your order number and we will Priority a replacement to you today!

Another issue we have seen is that the PC 7424 is simply a bad unit. We could try to change out the weight, but in my experience this rarely works.

Try the new backing plate. Run the machine at 5.5 as you highest speed for most applications. If you compress the pad more than 50-60%, you're applying too much pressure.

If you still get excessive vibration, we'll replace your PC.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. I have placed an order (autopia-40865) that is scheduled to ship via USPS Priority this afternoon so you should have your new FlexPlate in 2-3 days. ;)

that's the reason why i don't run my pc at 6...

Not to be arguementative but,..........

I have had my 7424 for quite some time, and have not had one issue with it, and I always run it at 6. Matter of fact, I wish it had a 7!

I really appreciate the service Lynn and David! You two were quick to reply to my message, though I wasn't able to check them until just a while ago. :doh Oh and another thing, I'm using the PC model 7336 that Lowe's sells. I've heard that the only difference between the two is the counterweight, but the FlexPlate should still be compatible with it right?

Well based on what I can tell from Lynn's post, I guess she was able to find my shipping info already? And I haven't even e-mailed support with my order number yet! But I will if need be. :bolt Now that's some pretty darn fast customer service!

The stock counter weight that comes with the 7424. I know there are some folks who say you need to swap the weight, but I find it to be very rare.
