Whose yer DADDY!??!?!?!?!
Hey guys, this is one of my first posts so you are going to have to bear with me.
My roomate is a total car guy jut like me. However where I am into detailing and car audio, he is COMPLETELY into drag racing. He is a master mechanic, and quite good at it. He just called me on his way back from a race. He ran an 11.7 on an all-motor honda hatchback and people were coming up to him to congratulate him, along with a few people that are considering sponsoring him. - trust me this will get into detailing in a minute - Anyway, the car is a 1992 Honda Civic EG which is a hatchback, and according to him has only been washed with dishsoap a couple times since he bought it. One of the would-be sponsors indicated that if they were to sponsor him he would need to have a more presentable looking car.
The car in the last 5 years has never been waxed and as I said above only washed a couple times with some palmolive.
Now I see this as the perfect opportunity to practice with my new PC. As it stands the paint is extremely un-happy looking, very rough, barely reflects the light and just all around crappy looking. I am thinking I will wash it, then clay the whole thing (I just LOVE sore forearms), then polish it with SSR-2. finish up with some Meg wax. Or do you think SSR-3 would be needed?
NOW here comes the questions that you guys might be able to help me with. Currently he has stickers all over the car, on the paint, (jeez!), on the windows and basically all over. I know I am going to have to remove the stickers in order to clay it and whatnot, but how anal do I have to be with regard to the left over stickum that the stickers might leave on the paint? Is the claying going to take off this stuff? Any techniques you guys might have for removing this film would be way helpful.
Also some of the parts on his car were not original factory spec, and as a result are fist-can painted, you know what people use to write graffiti. Is it ok to glaze and polish these pieces or should I just leave them alone because the paint type is not known?
I would like to see my buddy/roomate get sponsored, because then he might be able to get me the rent on time for once. :rolling Just kidding he is actually a responsible mechanic (yes I know that is an oxymoron)
Any help would be appreciated, any steps you think I might be missing and whatnot.
Thanks ahead of time for any tips you guys might be able to provide and I will be sure to take before and after pictures and try to figure out how to post them.
