My Porter Cable 7424?

Got my PC 7424 out the other day and as I was screwing the handle in on the left side... I found that it wouldn't tighten. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I can still use it, by installing the handle on the right side, just wanted to post this before taking it apart.

If it won't tighten on one side, the threaded hole may be cross-threaded or stripped. If you just bought it and haven't used it, you may want to return it. (If you think it's defective.)

However, after using mine for a couple years, I've found that I don't use the handle anymore. For me, it's more comfortable and easier to handle without it. (Large hands.):D

Bill, with your PC 7424 do you wear gloves, because of the heat that comes off the front end of the PC? Spartacus, if the handle doesn't fit, then it's defected! I'm left handed and tried both handle positions and didn't have any problem with either.

No I don't wear gloves. The PC gets pretty warm, but never really what I would consider hot; not even after using it for several hours. And I usually place the palm of my hand directly over the center of the pad. Kind of like an extension of my arm!

(I have sort of "old school" ideas about things. For example, I've seen guys wear gloves when working on an engine to keep there hands from getting beat up. I could never do that. Just not in my DNA, I guess! So my hands get beat up.

I never said I was too smart - Haha. :D)

Same as biolink, I stopped using my handle years ago. I feel that I have even more control of the buffer without the handle and I'm using it at speed set at 6.

I tossed that handle after the first time I used it and it rubbed a blister on my thumb. Get a bolt from the hardware store and tighten down one side of it, it'll keep that plastic from vibrating and making a racket, and like others - use your palm on top of the PC.
