I have this polisher already.

I have only used it for polishing aluminum.
I want to get a PC 7424, but wanted to know if I could use this. I have never polished a car before and from what i understand these are harder to use than the DA polishers.

I would suggest practicing on something your not afraid of messing up or have time to fix. Things can go real wrong real fast with a rotary. I don't know much about the one you have. I wish I did and could help more. Just do not touch a clients car till you feel comfortable for your own protection.

If you can find anyway to swing the PC do it and learn it.

With any polishing just remember clean clean clean. Keep everything clean. A stray piece of dirt can ruin your day. Hose out every seam and crevice during your wash.
When you get the PC remember the vibrations can knock dirt loose and you'll get "pigtails" when your pad picks it up. Also try and read as many of Mike Phillips tips on use. He is great about explaining the process rotary or PC.

I saw its a 2 speed rather than 6. At least its got a decent RPM range unlike my Dads old Milwaukee "buffer"..it was balls to the wall 700000 rpms and thats it. It would probably be ok, but if youve never done this before I would highly suggest starting out with a PC or Griots machine and working your way up to a rotary.

Swing for the PC. There's so much more versatility with a Porter Cable. You could even get brush attachments for carpets.

If money really isn't an issue, I'd obviously say go with a Flex 3401. However, if you look into getting the new Megs DA Microfiber system, the PC seems to have better results over the Forced Rotation machines like the Flex 3401.

Overall, I'd say the Porter Cable would tip the scale in your circumstance.
