My new TOY!!!

Hey guys, I just bought my first ever shotgun last Thursday. I was choosing between the following shotguns...



  • Benelli Super Black Eagle II
  • Beretta Xtrema2
  • Browning Maxus/Gold
  • Winchester SX3





So, i went to our local gun shop and asked to see the following firearms. I looked at, held aimed and swung with all 4 firearms, all 4 with pros and cons. I wont go into details on each one, but the plastic on the benelli to me felt and seemed somewhat cheap and really shiny. The Beretta didn't pull up, aim or swing quite right for me, the browning didn't come in a camo pattern and the Winchester i didnt really care for at all.



So i was down to Benelli SBE II, Beretta Xtrema2 and Browning Maxus. Went through the paces on those 3 again, and came to my conclusion.

Congratulations on your new shotgun. Now get to work on it and get rid of all that excess oil. No love for the Benelli, huh? I love mine. I've had it fourteen years and have never had any issues with it. Very durable and reliable.
 
CumminsCrazed- Glad you found the right shotgun for you. What's it's intended application?



RustyBumper- Noting that I share your enthusiasm for the Benellis, that operating stystem on the Browning probably makes it a *lot* easier on the shooter in situations where there's a lot of shooting.
 
rusty bumper, that oil is on there to make sure all moving parts are nice and lubricated.....i have much love for the benellis as that was the gun i intended on buying, but the browning fit me, swung best for me and aimed best for me.

Having run guns in a lot of [crappy] conditions, I've found (to my initial surprise) that a lot of the conventional wisdom about lubing firearms is, uhm...less than optimal.



FWIW I've kinda gotten away from light oils for gun lube. This might sound crazy, but I'm doing well with a light film of...you won't believe....wheel bearing grease of all things :eek:



Besides the issue of keeping things (that need to be) well-lubricated, with lighter lubes, a lot ends up being/migrating to places where it doesn't do any real good.



Just some food for thought, not intended as a lecture.

That is packaging oil and should be removed before shooting. Clean with your favorite cleaner, and then re-oil with rem oil or CLP.
 
well, i shot just short of 50 rounds through it tonight to begin breaking it in.....shot flawlessly, ejected all shells flawlessly and was basically perfect. Recoil pad was amazing, had nearly ZERO kick/lift!!!

Yeah, between the pad and the gas system I bet that's one sweetie in that regard.
 
Great buy,actually thinking of one of these myself although we don't get them over here (England) til Jan 2010 even though their made in Europe!Go figure.



Any idea if theres a magazine extension tube for it avalible or a 30 inc barrel on the way?if not a Maxus barrel will the SX3 one fit?
