My New Debate...

So I'm pretty set on purchasing a gallon of Meg's M105 from ADS but I'm in a debate as to what pad cleaning system to invest in to save myself some time in the long run.

From what I've found, there are two pad cleaning systems available at ADS. One is the System 2000 for $129.95 and the other is the Universal Pad Washer for $134.95 that includes a Pad Renewal Cleaning Solution, Gamma Seal lid for transportation, and my choice of a Meguiar's 6.5" foam pad.

Ok, so it should seem that this should be a no-brainer right? Should I just go with the UPW or the System 2k, despite the fact that they do the same thing but in a different way? I'm just curious to hear the reasoning behind why I would pick the System 2k over the UPW.

Oh and another thing, are there any other similar systems and/or cheaper prices for these type of systems from other vendors? :p

I'd take the UPW for the stuff you get for $5 more. I'd love to have one of those because I hate washing pads, but I can't justify the $130 price tag.

They just had the UPW on sale this past week on AutoGeek.net 15% off. I went to the show, saw the demo they had of it and broke down and got one. I don't detail often (yet), but that fact that it can be completely closed so there is no spillage, perfect.

It doesn't look like something which would be too difficult to make yourself. I think this weekend I'm going to pick up a few supplies and give it a shot.

If all else fails, it looks like a great product and the video has me sold. I hate washing pads

Considering I have intentions of purchasing the UPW, would it be overkill to purchase the Edge Conditioning Brush as well? I'm guessing that the Edge Conditioning Brush is simply for cleaning the surface of pads between polishing/correcting panels and the UPW is ultimately for cleaning pads when you're completely done with a detail or between panels.

The only advantage I see in having the Edge Conditioning Brush is that you are able to clean the surface of the pad and keep the saturation of product in the pad to save some product (although likely minimal).

So, should I just go ahead and purchase both or one or the other? I'm just not sure what to do! :nervous2:

I would just get the UPW. I think you could easily use it to wash your pads while detailing and move on to the next panel. Before I had a pad conditioner brush I would spray off my pads and spin dry and move on to the next panel, so the UPW is the next best thing.

Also, any product which may be left over in your pad is probably all gummed up and will not be beneficial to use on the panel or the abrasives may already be broken down.

Just my thoughts...

Well I'll go with just the UPW then.

Yet, now I have a new debate in the air. So I want to invest in some wool pads and I currently have the Meg's W64 backing plate for my Metabo. I have 2 options in mind:

1) Edge 2k 6" wool pads (1-black, 1-yellow, 1-green) and Edge 3k adapter

2) Edge Classic 8" wool pads (1-black, 1-yellow, 1-green) and LC 6.5" purple foamed wool

From what I've read from the Edge website, it seems they only have the Edge Classic wool pads in 8" while their Edge 2k wool pads are available in 6". I just acquired my Metabo and I haven't quite figured out what the difference in performance would be between a 6" and 8" wool pad. So essentially, I'm trying to figure out which ones is the better investment for my rotary.

So what are the pros and cons of each of my 2 options? I'd be glad to hear them.
