ok well my mom decided she didn't want to wash her car for about a month, and there was a big ol' splat of crapolla on there for about the same ammount of time.

I helped her wash it today, and it left the worst(etching i guess it is) in the paint. It looks like it cracked the clear coat, and ate down to the primer.

What do you guys suggest i do to fix this problem(or can i do anything)?

here are some pics so you can see it.

this is on a brand new 4runner if that helps at all....

thanks guys,

mike

p.s. i have a pc. I have some ssr 2.5 and 1(dont know if that will work)

Wow, that is some serious bird waste right there.

I'd suggest lightly wetsanding the areas first, then polishing a bit. Otherwise, you're stuck with repainting.

i think it was a ostrich lol

Have a question about the polishing of it....with it being soooo freakin cracked up, and down to the primer. Would the pad rip up the paint if i tried to polish it out to make it look....not as crappy(no pun intended)

Wow, that was some nuclear poop! Sorry to see that happened, but I honestly don't know what you could do to make it less noticeable without making it worse. You could try polishing it a little bit with a very soft pad, but please be very careful. Since it appears to be actively flaking, it may want to come off on you.

Hard to say. What does it feel like? When you run your finger nail over the cracks, does it catch? And how badly?

If you're going to get the panel repainted anyways, you can always see what happnes if you try to fix it yourself (light polishing). Of course, you don't want to make it so bad that your painter has to charge ou more. :nana:

hell it wouldn't be my money...its my moms 4runner =P

nah but seriously i told her to just take it to a body shop and see what they say, because i think its beyond my experience, and more then i'd like to attempt.

thanks for letting me know what you all thought about it, and it pretty much was the same thing i was thinking.

Definately need a repaint.

And to the best of my judgement, that panel has been painted before. I've seen paint do that in other instances, but only with repaints. It has to do with a bad prep job.

I agree that looks like a bad repaint (my first thought when I saw it was "I've never seen that happen to a factory paint job"). Even though the car is "new", vehicles get damaged in transit and on the dealer lot. I believe state laws vary as to how many repair dollars convert a "new" car to a "used" one (as in the dealer can no longer call it a new car). I think here in NJ it's $2000.

Glad we don't have those kind of birds in Australia. Looks like it came from a mutated bird that probably eats humans.

will the dealership have a record if it was infact repainted? or do they not have to disclose that information to the owners?
