My Meguiars Ultimate Wax Review (and side by side NXT Longevity Comparison)

Finally got around to trying this stuff out. Some thoughts:

-Doesn't seem to have any cleaners

-Easy on, Easy off, no streaking for me, temps were around 60 degrees

-Very slick, yet substantial feeling, NXT is maybe a bit more slick?

-Nice darkening effect, a bit of depth, not a ton of gloss, though I just applied it, will know more as it cures

Overall, it was a pleasure to use. I really do like NXT so not sure if this will unseat it as my fav OTC sealant.

I really like megs ultimate paste wax, really one of the only paste waxes I ever use. Easy on, easy off, can use in direct sunlight, and has great durability. Not bad for OTC.

I gotta say I'm really liking this stuff so far. It just continues to look better. Maybe its in my mind but it just keeps getting deeper. Its not overly glossy, which I really like. It makes my red so ...well...red. Its like someone took a picture and then added a huge amount of saturation in photoshop. Seems to release dirt very well. This is great stuff for OTC. Not sure if it will look this good on lighter colors.

I think I know just what you mean....might be the kind of look I appreciate on the Jag's weird light gray metallic single stage lacquer ("no, no...it's not silver" :grinno: ).

Yeah, might work well for that. To me the look is the polar opposite of 845, so if you hate that on a particular car, this might be a viable answer.

I put this on my brother in law's white full size truck after a 1 step polish, and not only did it last through 5 months of harsh lawn care, but the shine and gloss was excellent. It does look really good on light colors.

Ah, perfect explanation (the comparison with 845)! Yeah, that (and P21S/M16/etc.) are exactly *wrong* for me on that car. Now you have me wondering if I might like something better than my age-old Sӧuveran approach!

Given the way Meguiar's stuff is all pretty compatible (like...using their LSPs over M07) I'm guessing the UW would work fine over my Autoglym SRP, right?

I don't see why it wouldn't work over SRP, might compromise its durability some. I have it on top of ZAIO with no issues. It does fill reasonably well too, another bonus. The only gotcha seems to be you the looks are gradual, it seems to take a day or so to settle into its look.

Dan- Ah, the filling would also be appreciated on that particular car (no more polishing on that one...). And yeah, I know what you mean about the looks taking a while to finalize, FK1000P is the same way for me.

Gee, one of these days (?years? :o ) I gotta get that car out of mothballs and give it some exercise!

I'm just appreciating filling more and more as time goes on. You can make yourself go crazy chasing after life induced marring. Both the paste and spray versions do a nice job of making that stuff disappear.

Michael Stoops over on MOL stated that UW will have no issues going over anything. I am sure he spoke mostly about Meg's products, but I inquired about their new white wax, which is a blend of polymers and wax, to which he replied it would be no problem. I'm trying it on my Candy White VW in the spring.

Dan...agree about filling. I used to look down on it, then real life set in. One polish a year and filling to help with life induced marring.

Ultimate polish, probably not. Ultimate wax, maybe but you would probably get gloss you don't want.

I see. I guess I should be extra careful when applying them to the rest of the car. Thanks.

Is it safe to use Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and/or Meguiar's Ultimate Wax on a matte black trim?

Meguiars states that the PASTE version stains trim so keep it off. UW liquid doesn't so you may like to try it and report back. :)

As far as this stuff polishing black trim pieces, it can & will do that. But what I have found is that it deepens the black plastic trim pieces & makes them look better.

I have used this stuff on black vinyl overlays & it deepens the color & gives a matte finish a little shine.

I have used this on black Plasti-Dip & it shines it up & leaves a nice gloss (if that's your thing)

I have used it on dingy looking wiper arms & it makes them look better/blacker, but not quite shiny like new.

For laughs, I even applied this stuff to one of my tires (bottle was about empty & I wanted to see what it would do) & it actually made my tire look new again, but not all shiny like it would have been with Armour All.

Another cool thing I have found is that if you have wax residue on a black plastic piece, say around a mirror, I applies this Ultimate Wax to the plastic & I am not sure if it just covered up the issue or removed the old wax, but either way, it took care of the problem & looked phenomenal.

Besides the black plastic pieces or any of the above, I have found this wax to be a little challenging on paint. It will go on easily, but taking it off has leaves a little bit of a film that required extra steps to remove. Maybe I needed to let it set up longer than the 15+ minutes I let it, but once done, the color is deeper than before & looks amazing. I cannot comment as to how long the stuff lasts because if your like me, your doing your car every other month lol.

A little pricey, but definitely worth a shot if you can get it on sale.

Thanks. I don't have the liquid version so I can't try it.

I'm a little afraid of using them on the pieces based on the above posts. The car is still a few months old so I'm a bit extra careful. But maybe I'll try using it on them when trims get a bit faded. Thanks.

I'd do everything possible to avoid having the trim degrade to an appreciable extent, rather than waiting until it looks less-than-new and then trying to improve it. If you take care of it from the git-go it can stay showroom indefinitely (and I mean.. "for decades, just like new").

There is nothing to worry about with this product on any of the black plastic pieces. The wax was never an issue on those parts. All I was trying to say is that taking the wax off of the painted surfaces, it left a little film that I had to work on to get off, everywhere else it was never an issue.

I was using the Liquid version.

Alfisti said something about the paste version could stain trims. What I have is the paste version, that's why i'm trying to avoid using it on the trims. :)

I'll make sure to get the liquid version next time after using up the paste. Thanks.

You got a point. Will do. Thanks.

What would you suggest I would use to protect them? Should I get a specific one for trims or the liquid wax (only after I use up my paste though) would be enough?

TIA.
