My Maxima and Wife's Tahoe

I spent some time this past weekend cleaning up the daily drivers. Mine is a 1998 Maxima (91,000 miles) and my wifes is a 2002 Tahoe (15,000 miles). I used the following process on both vehicles:



Washed with Meguiars Soft Gel Wash

Mothers Clay Bar

Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner

#9 Swirl Remover

The Wax Shop Super Glaze

Medallion Premium Paint Protectant.



Spent about 3 hours on each vehicle. Applied all steps by hand, and I used a Craftsman orbital polisher to remove the paint cleaner, swirl remover, super glaze and paint protectant.



I just purchased a Porter Cable 7424 ROB, and the additional foam pads all from CMA. Hopefully, the new PC will even make the vehicles look better. If not, at least I can apply the above products with the PC and save my shoulder.

My wife really likes her Z71. She traded her M3 on it last year. I do not like the bras either, but driving the vehicles on the highway, with all of the small debris that is flying around, it does not take long to have the front of the vehicle all chipped up. Last year during a snow storm, our highway department ran out of salt, and put down sand. Driving down the highway sounded like someone was in front of your car throwing hand fulls of rocks at you.
 
Oh yeah, I think Buffalo just uses sand now. It's not even sand, it's like gravel. It's horrible. It tracks into the cars and not to mention the house. Twister, just take it off and clean it everytime you wash I guess :)



An M3 for a Z71? NO!!!!!!
 
I hate the idea that highway departments are using a sand like substance now. At least salt melts or gets crushed in a few days, where the sand just continues to be on the road until it is washed away. That would suck with sand being tracked just about everywhere. How do you keep your interiors clean of the sand? I thought once sand was in your carpet, it was in there for life. It is such a pain in the A?? to clean.



Everytime I wash the cars or if it rains, the bras come off until I get the cars cleaned up again. I try not to go more than 3 or 4 days without them though.



I know, a Z71 from a M3!!! At first my wife had a Z3, and wanted something bigger to drive, so we upgraded to the M3. We then had a baby, and with his car seat in the back seat, who ever sat in front seat, had their knees in the chest. She once again opted for a bigger vehicle. I thought about keeping the M3 because I thought we would be offered next to nothing for trade in, but when we were test driving the Z71, the general manager saw her M3 and when we returned from our test drive, they offered us almost retail for the trade. Hard to pass that up.

how is the gas mileage on the z71?how about the highway ride? i was going to purchase a toyota sequia but i can get a excelent deal on any gm through my job, i will basically pay the gm employee price and i get any rebates, so it looks like i will be geting a z71. black. i will be giving my avalanche to my father and trading my 2000 accord. ijust worried about gas mileage, and reliebilty

The Z71 gets about 18 - 19 on the highway at 75 mph with the Ac on. WE do have the 3:73 rear gears. Through the week with both city and highway, she is pulling 15.5 average. My wife drives this vehicle, so it is not pushed hard at all. The ride is smoother than I thought it would be, but when you hit a bump, you are reminded you are in a truck. We have had the Z71 since April 2002, and the only problem has been the rear wiper washer, ( the plastic spray part that sprays out the washer fluid, did not have the hole in the end to allow the washer fluid to come out.) This is first Chevy, so we have been very happy. With my wife changing from BMW's we actually feel that we have a very sound vehicle. The M3 we had always seemed to have some small problem, but so far we have not experienced this with the Z71.
