My Man Cave - Work in Progress

Hey all,

Spent the better part of last weekend and nights over the past week clearing out my garage. We have been here 6 years and the garage has been used primarily for storage. I managed to carve out a spot for the Mustang of course :)

There is still a long way to go such as lighting, paint, cabinets and a floor coating but this is a start. I was finally able to bring my bike up from the basement and will be building a diy motorcycle table this weekend to begin the work on getting it back together.

Wow! Great Job! That's gotta feel awesome to go in there in see how much work you've done and breathe in all of that free-space air! Congrats!!

wow great job so far. defiantely a big difference, and u'll love the fact that you can actually walk around your car when its parked in the garage now!!! a little bit more work in there and u'll have urself a nice room to escape to. haha

i plan on doing some work in my garage as soon as the weather turns here in michigan. unfortunately im only 20 and still live with my parents, but they agreed to let me do whatever i want with it haha. i don't have anything crazy planned for it, just a few cabinets and shelves to store stuff on, as well as sifting through all of the other junk that my mom has piled up in the corners over the last few years.

what did you do? it looks the same? j/k man im jealous i need to do some shop cleaning and stuff like that and update it. i wish i had time! good job nice hard work there

Thanks for all the positive comments and encouragement guys. As much as I have gone through it is amazing I am still finding stuff to get rid off. I must have thrown out an entire lawn garbage bag of stuff tonight.

My next step is to work on is better organizing what needs to stay in the garage. I have been looking at cabinets over the past week or so. I would appreciate any suggestions on sturdy but reasonably priced garage cabinetry.

I used Husky from Home Depot online. I like the finished product but getting there was a big headache!! Broken parts, damaged faces, etc. I do recommend Home Depot Online however because they have a terrific exchange/replacement program.

They had a nice set of Coleman cabinets on there that would look nice. However, if you look around locally, you might be able to buy some for the same price or even have some built wall units for about the same. Just a couple of thoughts for you to consider.

Garage space is PRIME real estate, RJ. I'd have a hard time sharing my space with household stuff. You're well on your way to re-claim prized territory!

Oh, BTW, my wife has a rule: If it hasn't been touched/used in the past 18 months, out it goes! ;)

We have a similar rule Tom P....but we keep it to 12 months. Usually it has to do with sport gear. Are basement is what we like to call the gear cave. If we don't use it from one season to the next, we donate it to an organization. (then I get to go get the new hotness! ;-)

One of the things that enabled me to get everything out of there is an addition we put on the house. The main part of the house has just a crawl space but because of the slope of the yard I was able to put a basement under the addition. We got rid of a good bit of the stuff in the BEFORE picture but the rest went into the basement.

Reminds me of cleaning up my garage .. would love to have some indoor space to work on my car. Added benefit is no snow cleaning after a snowstorm. :D

RJ, it's not supposed to snow in NC/SC. I thought that's why people retired down there!

We get at least one good storm, sometimes two at the most a year.

The snow/slush is usually gone in a day or two :)
