my makita on the fritz

My Makita died a weeks ago when I was polishing my car with PO85rd. I had to finish up with the Flex. I am pretty sure my issue is the brushes. If I squeeze the trigger I get power for a second, then lose it. Similar to if someone were plugging the cord in just enough to get power and then pulling it out immediately after. I have a friend who is one of the type who can fix anything. I will ask him to take it apart and confirm that it is the brushes before I order new ones. I have no idea where to order brushes though???????

Hey guy's try calling 1-800-4MAKITA for repair centers around the country or go to www dot Makita dot com

i was polishing the wifes bimmer over the weekend and 9227 stopped working. i can make it go if i jiggle the wires going into the handle. anyone else had this problem and is it a easy fix or should i take it to a repair shop. i'm mechanically astute i just don't wanna make it worse by opening it up.

Open up the makita and cut about 12 inches out of the power cord and reconnect. Seems all makita's do this.

Had the same problem with mine and it has very low mileage. As suggested open up the handle and cut out a section about six to seven inches long. This is a very common problem with this machine but it's also a very easy fix .If you wiggle the wire just right where it enters the handle and pull the trigger at the same time you will see that it will work on and off.

Yep. Just fixed mine again 2 weeks ago. The wires inside break from all the bending over time.

Takes about 5 minutes to fix. ;)

*I Repaired Mine*

bought it brand new still in the box off ebay last summer. i'll see if i can just order a new cord and replace myself... shouldn't be that complicated.

Evenin'/
I took my Makita apart and just watched where the wires go.
Went to *Home Depot*,bought a Longer and Next Larger Gauge
Cable and installed it myself..../:cornut:
IMOPO,I believe it was pretty easy.Although, some guys do not feel
comfortable doin' somethin' like this...And that's okay too.Than one is
better off having someone else do it for them/:wink:.Good Luck
and give it a try.
Best Regards/

fixed it last week... my back needed a break anyways.

maybe a few of you pros here should contact the engineers at makita and let them know of the problem we're having with the cord and explain to them how we use their machine. they should be able to come up with a new and improved attachment the comes out of the buffer at a 90 degree angle since putting the cord over our shoulders when we use the machine is whats breaking the cords.

Mornin' Guyz/
If you take a real good look at Makita's OEM Cable construction,it's a pretty cheap, constructed cable cord,IMOPO.*For what one pays for it/$$$...a Higher Quality Cord should be installed*.You can see the outer jacket get wrinkles in it,pretty easily.Looks to me,that the Insulation is not molded with the wires. But,I went to Home Depot, and bought an *Extension Power Cord,w/a Built-In Strain Relief and a Molded-on 3/Conductor Plug.I believe it's approx. *9 Feet Long*.I think the Wires are *16/Gauge*,IIRC.They may have longer ones, also.
I do not do the kind of Detailing, some of you do,so I cannot say this is the *Premier Fix*.IMOPO,the Cable Cord I bought from HD,is *Superior* to the one Makita installs.
As the other poster stated,*do not wrap the cord around machine*.Just lightly coil it along side of the buffer,and/or as I do,use a *Releaseable Cable Tie* to keep the cord neat, and put it away,in my Makita Bag.

Makita cord replacement

After buying a makita 9227c from a local pawn shop. I replaced the cord that had numerous repairs made by the previous owners. I chose a Utilitech brand extension cord that is made for extreme outdoor cold weather. It is extremely flexible and has worked out great with no problems. If in the future if my other da's or rotaries are in need of a cord , this blue colored gem will be my go to cord.
