My interesting afternoon (Pics...56k take a walk)

it was my first time...
Well this afternoon proved to be a little more exciting then expected. I have Fridays off from school, and since I didn’t get called into sub today, I had the day to myself. Anyway I’ve been trying to get in better shape physically after my snowboarding trip this past break. I’ve never felt so winded and sore in my life afterwards. So I decided I’ll start taking walks, and try to snap some nice pictures during the process.

After a couple of blocks of walking I stop by a Burger King to use the bathroom. I was contemplating walking on the main road to get some building shots or going through the park trails that runs parallel to the street. Once coming out of Burger King I heard a ton of sirens and the road up ahead was blocked off. I then see black smoke, and I’m like “oh boy photo opt”. Turns out this Ford Escape caught on fire somehow, luckily nobody was hurt. This bigger gentleman approaches me and asks if my camera is digital. I’m like yes, he goes that’s my truck, would you mind e-mailing them to me. I was like no problem; it’s the least I can do. I wanted to ask what happened but he was in shock, so I let it go. After that I was pretty pumped up to take some more pictures and got a couple nice shots in the park on my way home that I plan on submitting for competition in two weeks. I didn’t do much post processing to them just playing with levels and colors. Well Enjoy! :eat:

My excitement for the week…

Great Pics.I"m sure the owner of the car will use the pics for his insurance.
The pictures in the park are nice as well. The stores in the backround and pics of the park look like an and older historical neighborhood?

Jack they are some really nice shots

But you will have to forgive me because when I saw some of the pics I couldn't help but to put a few captions with some of the pics

I almost got the whitewalls back just a little more SG

I really need to get some rest

On a serious note there, have been a number of compaints about Ford truck, bursting into flames, I think it had to do with something with the cruise control shorting.

Sorry again Jack, but I couldn't help myself.
Good Luck on the competition

the one looking at the drivers seat /dash has realy soft focus.
The one wit the water runnng its too bad you souldn't up the speed a little big and got a little more defined drops.. Everything else looks good.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

joe p.- I guess you can say the town has its history, but I think to say its historical is pushing it.

Sean, I'm shooting with a Fuji Finepix S5100 (advanced P+S). I do plan on getting a dSLR in the spring though, although the prices i've been seeing have been quite tempting. The truck on fire were taken in aperature priority and auto. Really couldn't play around with the settings to much as I was trying to capture the moment. The cops and firefighters also didn't like me right there, and eventually asked me to go to the other side of the street, so I just snapped away. The rest were taken in aperature priority, with the exception of the zoomed in pipe. That was taken in shutter priority. I tried slowing down the water as well as trying to freeze it. The slowed down one came the best so I posted it.

Jay, I don't mind the captions at all. I was actually thinking for the second one, "theres the hood release". :stuart:

I'm thinking the fire was caused by the active cruise control wire. I've heard about a lot of ford explorers going up in flames because of it not to long ago.

nice photos. i like the second one of the park. very interesting shot. the first one of the ford you took may be a nice oppurtunity for a freelance pic your local paper. make a few extra bucks.

Nice pictures. All of them.
I wasn't aware of the cruise control wire problem on the Fords.

I just figured it was either the Firestone tires or he used Simple Green at too high a concentration.
