My Garage -- Guru's Please Help!

Ok, well Im 17, I love my car more then anything and spend about 2hours a day just cleaning things on it.



We have a 2 car garage with a sub 1 car garage still attached (you know what I mean 2 doors but ones a 2car garage ones a one)



Anyways I want to make my side of the garage look really really good like what I've seen here.



To start im in love with the checkard floors. Currently we have a concrete floor could I just take some glossy paint and paint checkers on it? How did most of you do it?



Secondly I want to put in 2 4ft or so flourescent lights on the ceiling to help me with detailing



Third -- Aweomse car pictures framed on the wall to give it that "awesome appeal"



Finally the problem is on the inside the garages are all a big room, I want to add a wall seperating my one car garage from the 2 car garage. How hard would that be? Any ideas guys?

It's really easy to pick up some 2x4s and drywall and build a dividing wall.

Ask yourself if you really want to do this. Large space can be really beneficial. (To me it is)
 
I ain't no guru but I do have a couple of ideas. I'd suggest epoxy coating your garage floor. You can paint it but it seems concrete paint never holds up over time as well as epoxy. You can use the kits at Home Depot or Lowes to do your garage. I used Rustoleum's kit and sealed my garage floor for under $150.



If you garage floor is flat enough you can apply vinyl tile in the checkrboard pattern, just like you'd do a bathroom or kitchen. I don't know what that would cost or about its durability but its an easy job to do.



Lighting is real easy with the light kits from HD or Lowes. They're about $20 or so for a 4 foot light so for under $50 you've got your garage lit up real well. Hang them from some s-hooks and plug them into an existing light socket in the ceiling if it has one. There are adapters that convert a light socket into AC plugs so all you do is plug in the light kits into it and use the on/off switch on the wall.



As far as separating garages, well.... ya better clue in moms and pops before starting major construction. What I'd suggest is some sort of curtain (think of a big shower curtain) to separate the two spaces.

Ya you may want to ask mom and dad, also do you want to put that much work in a garage that you will be using olny 3 more years or so? Or are you going to be staying longer than that? All the tips so fara were great ones :)
 
You could also entertain the idea of separating your space from their's using shelves. You'll add storage space!



Target also has a small section in the automotive dept. that has several vintage looking aluminum signs for VW, Chevy and Ford if that interests you.
 
Office places (e.g. Staples) sell partition walls for offices. They are wall sections that stand up by themselves. They are only about 6 feet tall. They are usually about 2 inches thick and stand on upside down T legs. I don't know how much they cost. As far as your parents' are concerened, it might be a better solution than putting up a permanent wall.
