My freshly waxed new car.

This is my new car, a 2002 Cougar v6 "sport". It's my first car that is this dark, and would like some suggestions on what to use on it. Nubas or sealants, as I like to change it up every once in a while. It's currently wearing NXT topped with #26. My old car couldn't shine like this one can so I never bothered to get the good stuff for it. Oh yeah, and sorry about the dirty lense, didn't notice till it was dark outside. Anyways tell me what you think. PS thats not a chip on the hood shot, its a bug.

Nice car and welcome! for dark cars, you can use both sealant and carnauba. You apply the sealant first, let it cure for 24 hours, and then you can apply a coat or 2 of wax. The carnauba will bring a deep, wet shine to the car, while the sealant will give a strong protection and slickness. As for suggestions on what kind of products to use, there's many.. wait a minute, lots of options! Some people will agree that some wax and/or some sealant combination is the best, but for others, other products works best.



Now, productwise, sealants you have Poorboys EX and EX-P. EX-P works best for dark colored cars, like yours. You also have Optimum Poli-Seal, and Poorboys Polish with Sealant (PwS), and Danase Paint sealant, which cures in around an hour, and can be topped with pretty much anything. Waxes.... waxes! The most common mentioned here are Poorboys Natty's Blue, Optimum Car wax, Duragloss Aquawax, Danase XXX Car Wax, and Pinnacle Souveran, and let's not forget Max wax. They are all nice waxes, you just need to read and look to what fits your budget and looks you want.

In my head, I tend to think to use a sealant with metallics



I'd consider NXT Paste or Meguiar's #21, which tend to do well on darker colors..but that's just my experiences..there are alot of good options.



Of course, polishing is going to be 90% of the looks

Once you polish it out really well, I'd go with Werkstatt or if it will be a few weeks, Optimum's soon to be released Opti-Seal. Both look killer on metallics.
 
Thanks Scott. I'll have to try those. I basically want it to look wet, but also have as much flake pop as possible. If that's possible to have both.

What polish would work best? I have megs 83 and 80, those seemed to work alright on my old white car, and decent on my friends green car. I do want the best finish possible though. Oh yeah, I have a PC and polishing and finishing pads.
 
The condition of the paint looks pretty good. 80 would work great...If the 80 isn't working out you can always spot polish any tough spots with 83 and then 80 over that if necessary
 
Thanks guys. I think I am going to go ahead and maybe get aj trigger, and then opti-clear when it comes out. Then some nattys blue. And I'm going try and wait atleast a few more months before I get into other stuff. But I see many new shelves in the garage in my future haha.

Thanks! Great now I have to keep it really clean.... theres a spy! lol Judging by the looks of most of the cars around here, I wouldn't have guessed anyone from here knew about this place but me.

Oh trust me, if you wax your car then you're lightyears ahead of most. Those people who get their cars done at Auto Valet or Fast Lane don't count! It's a shame too because a lot of the nicer cars in town actually are taken to Auto Valet where everything is slathered wtih dressing by high school kids and the paint is swirled to hell by inexperienced detailers.
