My FJ Cruiser

Well, this is my new Toyota FJ Cruiser. Only had it for 3months, and now I found out I'm washing and waxing all wrong...hahaha. Anyways thanks to this forum, I learned the proper way, and even purchased a PC. Now I've been trying to get some of the micromarring out that I originally put in.

Spot Buff-PC/Orange with SSR2

SSR1 PC/white

3m Hand Glaze (with PC) (Yeah I know, not great, but its what I've got)

Natty's Blue.

Back to Black on the bumper and trim.

I like your new cruiser and good job detailing it!! I like the idea of having a white roof, I know they are just trying to go for the retro look but as a side bonus the roofs paint will outlast the rest of the FJ's paint. I don't share Mr.ikon's view of the truck but I agree that something can be better. Maybe it's the rims, I would consider an older stock look, maybe even solid black. Just a thought, thanks for posting. :woot2:
 
Looks good! I actually just started looking into getting an FJ as my it may be time to get rid of my Expy. Nice to see you can still get a manual tranny in these bad boys!



How do you like so far? Can you do a small review of it? What options did you go with? Interior shots?
 
Love the truck. It's by far the best vehicle I've owned, just hope the first year thing doesn't bite me. It's a 4wd (you can get 2wd) auto (as I drive apprx. 40min each way 6days a week). The inside is well thought out, vinyl lined etc. I'll try and get some inside pics 2morrow.

Most people who are getting these are going for aftermarket rims and tires, but that's a ways away for me. The 6cylinder is really peppy, and overall not too bad on gas. The front windshield really takes a beating from bugs&stones since its practically vertical. And no one makes and aftermarket windshield so they're running around 600.00 to replace.....I just keep my fingers crossed.

Yeah, I like the FJ cruiser, even though it hasn't grown on some people yet. Your's doesn't look too bad (not sure if it's just the picture angles or what), but ALL of the FJs I've inspected had bad orange peel...but I guess that's what you get with new cars today. Some black powder coated rims with chrome outer edge (rim of the rim) would make that thing tight!
 
That's one great FJ, don't see a lot of them around here yet. What exactly do you mean by "a random design" Frugle?
 
Here's a question for you. Being new to this detailing, and not knowing what Toyota's paint is like (these babies are made in Japan), what is more aggressive?

I still have some slight swirls and such, probably put in by me before I knew any better, and I found that the SSR2 with orange pad wasn't doing much....but the more that I read, I don't think I worked the area long enough. Also I think that my pads (especially the SSR2/white) were overloaded with product. I guess you cant really call it dust, but some dried larger than dust particles were constantly coming off the pad. How do I prevent this??

Pappa, let me give you the best advice I have for you (especially since you have a black vehicle) - get to know Menzerna polishes real well, as they will be your best friend. They tend to produce dust, but their abrasives are FAR superior to any others - they finish down much better relative to their cut. Trust me, spend the extra $$ and you will see. PO106FF will be your best friend.



Also, you won't be able to maintain it completely swirl free, not a black daily driver - no way. However, if you focus your attention on super careful washing and then give it a real good polish every 4 months, you'll be in the upper 99 percentile!

It sucks in Detroit sometimes because it is Big Three paradise and anything beyond that takes forever to catch on around here. However, I was seeing Forg GT test mules well before they went into production. LOL
