My First Detail

I have been a voyeur for some time now on this list serve, and finally felt I had enough info, maybe too much, to begin my own car in a full assult of the paint.

I used a

Red/maroon pad on PC 5000ocp

Turtle wax preimum grade rubbing compound

white pad on PC 4000ocp

megs fine cut

NXT nano paste wax by hand

This car has NEVER been polished, so I had lots of scratches and swirls. I tried to remove them using the least agressive but nothing worked until the turtle wax compound and the RED Megs foam pad.

I Really want some critical feedback and ides, I know this opens up the plethora of opinions!

I still have the other side to do, and am waiting on some other product to give it a try and compare. So if you have ideas let me know, I'll start on the other side on April 12.

You can see some paint pits and deep scratches as the car is 8yrs old and 115,000 with pleanty of off road use.

Cheers,

GREG

Very nice. I loved that generation of Explorers. Its on my list of cars I want to consider when I turn 17

Looks like you are off to an excellent start! If what you are doing is working, I think you should continue the process for this detail. :)

Your process seems fine. Eventually curiosity may get the best of you and you'll end up trying many products to find your groove like many of us have, hehe.

I bought some OC/OP and will do the other side with it, for comparsion sakes. With the paint being older and well used I am pretty happy with the results.

I used the turtle wax because I needed something with more grit, and the local shops are limited on choices. It worked great. I just hope I did not take off too much. The paint looks swirl free, but I think I would like more gloss? Shall I just work a more of a glaze over it?

I am willing to try things on my car, since my wifes HONDA is next and I cannot mess that up. Are Hondas paint hard or soft?
