My first clay bar experience - Mothers

I perfer the Mothers clay. I cut the bar into 1/3 sizes for ease of use and just in case I drop the bar. Once you drop a clay bar the bar is toast. The 1/3 size is all you need to do a car. I also keep the remaining bar in a zip lock bag with a little QD.

BTW: you car looks great!

Flux, I agree.

I ended up using the meguiars QD with the mothers clay bar for a bit until I switched to car wash soap.(much better!) The mothers did smell pleasant but I think it grabbed too much or dried too fast.

I have not been that impressed with the mothers clay bar. I accidentally pressed a little hard and it put streaks in the clear coat(scratches). Also, the bar is hard to mold. Constantly stretching and folding. Gets old. Also, when you do this the bar is not a bar anymore, its more like a thin piece of plato. Another thing it does not fit my big hand. However, I have no complaints with the results. Does a good job of removing contaminants.

I am just looking for something thicker, easier to mold, and bigger.

I was thinking clay magic until I just recently heard about the bar crumbling? waaaa.. that does not sound good at all. I am still interested in any bars that fit the description above? 3M, clay magic, pinnacle, I wonder if they are thick, easy to mold, and bigger? At the same time they need to be effective as well.

Good discussion though.

Thank you! If it weren't for this place I would be junking up my new baby just like I did to my last car. When you don't use a good detailing technique you eventually give up washing it altogether, I'm very glad I will be able to keep my new car looking good for a long time to come (short of any 'mishaps' that is -crosses fingers).

Glad you guys like the car, and very glad for this website :-D

Compared to CM, the Mothers bar may be a little harder to mold. I don't enjoy refolding and stretching the bar either...so what I do is cut off a small piece....maybe 1/8th of the bar at most, and start pressing it into the shape of a thin silver dollar. I use one side for 1-2 panels...then use the other side for 1-2 panels and then throw it away. Slightly warming the bar up before beginning will make it easier to cut and mold.
