My family, girlfriend, and friends call me a ******* regarding my new '03 IS300!

Oils sit on top of the finish, nothing more.



If you are going to use a sealant, you HAVE to remove oils so it can flow and bond correctly. That's all.



If you want wax, no need to stip oils, as that's all wax really is... oils/silicones with carnuba.

I changed it to the 6" weight. It's got a 5" in it when you got it from Megs, which is fine for the Megs pads/backing plate, but if you changed to a larger backing plate and pads, say from CMA, you should change to the 6 weight. Is it really necessary? NO, works same, but the weight just offsets the backing plate and pads when you use the 6.5" CMA pads.



You will not hurt the PC from what I've heard. Just feels a bit smoother with the 6.

I know CMA has it as well as Costaltool.



So I guess you are using the CMA backing pad with the pads from them as well. This would be the best combo to switch.



If you stay with the smaller Megs pads, no need to.



Still love the new reformulated Zaino Z5/Z2! Works very well!



Oh yea, I still have those same bottles of Megs with the kit too!

Still use DACP, #9 and others, but really like to use 3M products as it's more geared towards bodyshop work anyway. I use the PIII-MG for swirl removal, then switch to a lighter polish and grey pad so only the polish does the work. Menzerna FP is OK, but needs getting used to as it's water based as opposed to oil based, so a bit more stubborn to remove. Megs #3 glaze is very nice too. I stay away from #7 as it's too oily for Zaino, but still a VERY good glaze.



I go over hard to get areas by hand. Never PC on those, too risky and run risk on damage to the pad as well.



Clay is one overlooked aspect of paint prep. Shure, you wash the car, but some stuff still is on the finish, so before polishing, clay so you don't run the risk of having that "stuff" transfer to the pad, then back onto the finish making more risk of micro-marring or worse, swirls while polsihing. The finish B4 polish should feel like glass. Run you CLEAN hand over it, if you fell any bump or roughness, clay it.



Then polish away!



have fun and then go show those that doubted you on how ell your finish now looks!

Yeah I'm using the CMA backing plate and pads. I'll definately look into the weight.



As for the GEPC(SEPC) and sealants, I put Poorboys EX right on top of it with no problems. Seems like its hangin on...



Its a great sealant too, so easy to use.

Thanks for sharing this Deanski. :up Are you currently using the CMA backing plate? Do you still have a Meguiar's backing plate (5") to compare it to by any chance?



I ran a little PC vibration test myself a while ago (linked in my thread) and had also read a thread where some people had said the 5" Megs plate and the 6" weight was a great combo. This thread was lost, but based on those two things, I suggest in my PC thread 6" weights no matter what. I was just wondering if you had any more comments to add on this?



GoodnClean - if you're lucky, maybe a local authorized PC service center will be able to get the weight for you. The part number is listed in my thread, so try phoning around. :up



BTW, the last time I saw a real Meguiar's PC, it was a 7335 and thus equipped with a 5" weight from the factory.

I'm using the 6 weight and CMA backing plate after I changed it from the 5 weight. Maybe I'll give the Megs backing plate a try too so I can compare. Thanks for the info!

hey hybridkoop... wat tires came on your new IS300. Mine has the bridgestone potenza RE040 and I hate them! I am going to switch to eagle F1 GSd3, Toyo T1s, or Pirelli Pzero nero. BTW is your car lowered? What springs and shocks did u use if it is.
 
hah, every "new" car that ive detailed was full of swirls and required a tougher treatment than what you plan on using. Every time I take my car to the dealer I have to bring out the white pad and some abrasive stuff. Swirl city just by 1 car wash with their generic drying towels.
 
I can't say anything that hasn't been said (or that I don't agree with--as you'll come to find the people on this board are respectful and knowledgeable). Your car is mighty perdy though.
 
For some, no explanation is necessary. For others, no explanation will suffice. I would not worry about debating with your girlfriend and others, just let the results you get on your vehicle speak for you. My wife thinks I'm nuts for being so obsessive about detailing our vehicles, but never forgets to remind me when her car needs attention! I think they love the results but would not put in the time and effort that we do to get them.
