I could just as easily call this entry, "Lessons Learned".
It started on a beautiful day and I had some birthday money buring a hole in my pocket. I have been an autopian wanna be for some time and now I could afford. Pep Boys parts store had a Vector 7 inch rotary buffer for under $50. I thought it was too good to be true.
I bought it and then went to another store to buy the backing plate then to Sherwin Williams Auto Finishes to buy the pads - no one store had all items and were about 20 minutes drive from each other.
Backing plate secure...check. Pads on...check. Mist pads...check. Chemical on...check. Car clean and ready...check. Buffer set to low rpm...check.
I started the buffer. It started from low torque and then started spinning. Off I went...Woohoooo!
Wobble, wobble, wobble. WOOOH, what was this? Is it supposed to wobble up and down like this, I thought? It was not a side to side wobble like I had not centered the pad correctly, rather it was up and down wobble.
1.5 hours of driving and two store visits later, I learned the problem was the machine shaft. So I drove again to the store and tried another one - same thing.
It could have been those two machines but I was tired of driving and spending hours trying to figure out the problem. So I returned it and am looking at a Dewalt or Hitachi..
My hats off to Pep Boys for their great customer service and especially Sherwin Williams Auto Finish store for their terrific patience, time and advice!
Lesson 1 - maybe you really do get what you pay for
Lesson 2 - buy online and save yourself LOTS of time and gas running from store to store
