My choices for Rotary BP's (Chime in plz)

I'll have my new Makita 9227 on Monday and I'm looking into some backing plates and pads. If I'm not mistaken, the 9227 comes with a 7" BP, so I'd like to add a small backing plate to my arsenal for spot correction, bumpers, and so on. These are the ones I was considering. I'd appreciate some feedback on the following products that I'm interested in picking up.

The flexible 2.75" BP

Rotary 2 7/8 inch Flexible Backing Plate, backing plates, back plate, lake country backing pad

3M Perfect-it (5.5" ???)

3M 09553 Perfect-it Rotary Backing Plate

* I'd like to know what size the 3M Perfect-it BP comes in.

* I'd also like some opinions on what brand pads (and size) work best for the two above mentioned backing plates.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I have and like very much this BP. There's also a softer version which is gray in color. Both BPs have a god amount of flex in them, which helps conform to various body panels. I like the 3M (6") pads with this BP

The 3m backing plate is 5", good for using pads 5.5 to 6.5. another option is the Meguiars w66 backing plate 5.75", works well with 6.5 - 7" pads.

I just ordered the 2-7/8" and 4-3/4" flexible Lake Country Backing plates for my Hitachi rotary.

I use the 3.5" orange pads on the 2-7/8" and 6"/6.5" on the 4-3/4". I also have some older (3m) 7.5" pads that I use a generic 6.5" hard backing plate on. All my pads are LC, some old 3m's too.

They Lake Country backing plates are very good quality, especially for the money. the 3m is just too much money for me to spend.

I much prefer the foam backing plates like the 3m, GI, or Meg's SOLO over the molded rubber plates. Gives for a little smoother ride.
