My car vs new car....

Decisions, decisions...

I'm on the fence here, need advice.

I'm not sure if I should put some time/effort/money into getting my car back to the beauty she once was, or to buy the new version that just came out...

If I keep my car:

Pro's:

Cheaper (almost paid off)

I've put countless hours of work into her already

I only drive to the train station every day (~5 miles each way)

Emotional attachment. She's mine. I've had her for 6 years now. She's like a part of the family

Con's:

The paint is failing from poor repair work. (failed paint=no detailing)

The front bumper is super chipped

The leather seats are starting to crack

140k miles, all of em hard, redlining, wheel spinning, 4 wheel drifting miles...

Needs a lower control arm, new tires, and tune up, minimum.

If I get the new car:

Pro's:

It'll be new, or close enough

Factory paint = much more fun detaling than the repaint I've been working with for years. Better results, more fun..

Faster, newer, more technology.

Cons:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I only drive 10-15 miles per day, can I really justify a new car payment?

I park in a big, crowded lot. If someone door checks me, I'll have to light their car and house on fire.

Here's the pics of the two cars. My 96 miata, and the just revealed, 2006 miata....

Thoughts?

Get the new one. I'll tell you, after working today on the new car, there's nothing like working on new, swirl-free paint.

With all the work yours needs, the hard miles and the paint problems, I agree with the others. Go new!

I had a hard time selling my Accord because I'd had it so long so I understand your point.

I too would get the new one if you can swing it. Keep *that* one for a good long time and form an attachment to *it*. It's really not too hard to keep new paint in great condition and it can be refreshing to not deal with the same old issues all the time. Even stuff like door dings/etc. won't change the fact that it's new, factory paint and a new interior. With your care it can stay like-new for who knows how long.

And from everything I've read, the new Miata is gonna be a *very* nice car.

I would also go with the new Miata. I have always loved Miatas, and the 2006 model is definitely no exception!

How much does an '06 cost?
