My backing plate melted

I have a sonus backing plate for my pc that I bought new about a year ago. Yesterday while detailing my car with a blue pad on speed 6, my backing plate started to melt. Has anyone experienced this before?
 
yep. i bought one from AG a year ago and it melted after three panels. I sent it back and they gave me two new ones (one extra in case it happened again).
 
I was sure when I saw the thread title that it was going to be a different brand. I have never had any problems with the Sonus-style backing plates. The Sonus blue pads are finishing pads that must be pretty soft, speed 6 may be too high for them.

yeah I agree. nevermind my post. I forgot about the Sonus part. The plate that melted on me was NOT a sonus plate. I've never even owned any Sonus products.
