My attempt at wetsanding (pics inside)

I had a tape line across the top of my rear fender where the trunk and the fender meet, I also had one across my front fender where the fender and the front bumper meet. These lines had been there for awhile, and were caused when my favorite body shop repainted the side of the car.

For this process I used meguiars unigrit 3000 grit sandpaper and a meguiars sanding block. For lubricant I used a mixture of z7 and water, I also let the sandpaper soak in the same mixture. To finish it off I used sonus SFX3.

Here are some before pics.

(look at the whiteish tapeline in each pic)

Hi Slammin86, dat looks neat!! did u do it with a DA polisher or jus hand polishing to achieve the shine after wet sanding?

Can you advise how long it took to complete the task?

Two things. 1) Holy crap, that's an incredible job. I know how intimidating wetsanding can be, but your first after picture says it all - amazing work. 2) Like Shiny, I need to know, what happened to cause an '05 goat to need a repaint?

Well first off it is a 04 GTO. I bought it back in Oct 04. In Dec 04 A truck went down the whole side of the car. It was all cosmetic damage, and really was not that bad, but I pushed for a new door, and fender. They ended up having to repaint the whole side.

I knew the tape lines were there from day one but did not trust the shop who painted it to fix them due to the overall experience I had with them from the beginning. Pretty shady place. I was able to deal with the tapeline in the back because the spoiler covered it, but when I took the spoiler off it annoyed the hell out of me so I decided to do something about it.

I rubbed it by hand after I was done. That area in the trunk took me about 30 min, but I was checking often and I took a lot of pictures.

Ah.... duh! I should've seen the lack of hoodscoops :o

I guess the grilles thew me off, since I think that's a part of the aero package on '05 models.

I think the hood scoops are a "free" option on the 05's. You have your choice.

Nice work on that. I couldn't even tell what I was looking at in the before pictures.

Actually I think ALL '05s have the scoops. I was just a bonehead and didn't see their absence at first :o

You could custom order the 05 without the hoodscoops. I have not heard of anyone doing it though.
