The film is probably a combination of off gassing and just regular dirt buildup. I doubt it has anything to do with what cleaners are used.
Some cleaners might remove it better than others, but I've never really had a problem with any particular glass cleaner. I've had good results from just about everything as long as I buff the glass dry when I clean it.
The glass is like any other surface it on the vehicle. Maintaining is much easier than waiting untill it needs it.
