My 3M Rant – Opportunists for failure

I'm going to guess the results he gets and aims for are 'good enough' for the client. -I'm going to leave it at that.

I've always wondered how his work looked in person when he was done with it. Not saying that this marketing video means his work is bad or anything like that; just derailing the topic out of genuine curiosity.

I know a fellow Autopian that actually helped fix his shop's bad buffer work at SEMA a few years ago. He said the work that was corrected was piss poor.

[cynical] They'll only love it if it positively impacts their bottom line. Virtually nobody cares about this stuff the way we do, even in the hot rod/custom/tuner world. [/cynical]

David understands Web ranking and authority websites.

If Foose has a marketing person of caliber, they would

see the value in this place If even just in promoting

their expertise and knowledge here.

Lord knows I would enjoy talking paint with Foose.

We have the professionals here to make it happen.

But he probably has no time.

Most places would offer him free sponsorship, which

is a novel idea. The problem is that they put zero value

into sponsorship here, so they don't utilize it fully.

Cynical? Definitely.

Do I think it will happen? Nope.

But, it would be cool.

We have the best experts shop talk here. Period.

We don't need people like Foose here, but he is mainstream

and would ultimately be a boone for this site.

I can't help but think of Foose every time I see the

realistic car drawing threads.

Funny that you mention hot rod and tuner world. I stopped by that type of shop, and the owner was downright rude. He said that they require a level of quality for their customers.

You have to laugh at this, when the two cars out front of their shop look horrible.

I just wanted to see if they were interested in Opti coat for their cars. I quickly realized that people who insult before they even see your work, are not the ones to do businesses with in the first place.

If he was willing to put his name on a vehicle at SEMA that was "piss poor," as David put it, he probably wouldn't fare too well here...

Look at the big picture: If anything this means job opportunities for detailers fixing body shops detail jobs where they are using this product. :)

I have used the product mentioned in this thread..it is absoltely horrible IMO..

The cut is about a 4.5 to 5 and the finish is about a 2....

My problem with 3M has always been that once you get use to a product in their line, they change it to what they say is the "new and improved" version which is rarely the case IME.

Around here NONE of my suppliers know anything about the line (who can keep up), so I am left to do my own research.  Add in the fact that their part numbers make no sense at all and I am left a frustrated consumer who doesn't have time to sift through the extensive ever-changing line to find what works.

I don't blame Foose, hell, the guy is a legend! There's the awards, the honors and the sheer talent he has as a fabricator and a painter. If anyone on this forum tried tried to keep up with him in those areas - they'd fail faster than a fat man on a diet at a Golden Coral buffet. But, just because he endorses a product, doesn't make it great, c'mon - like Krusty the Klown confessed to Bart (they backed a dump truck of money up to my door and dumped it). Personally, I love "All Girls Garage" and not just because I'm 100% red bloodied, redneck, and love a girl that can wrench, I honestly love the show cause of the positive role models - I have daughters ok. BUT, I cringe when they promate Z-max, the over-priced snake oil that is worse than horse piss in your tank, No? really? Google "Z-max scam" hope you got a coke and a box of popcorn, you'll be reading a while.

So, celebrity endorsements....meh, before I put down my hard earned money, I get advice from folks that are like me, that are actual users of said product and not paid to say it's gggrrrr-eat!

That said, there's few on here, and you know who you are, that if they come out for a product, then I'm in. Why? They damn well earned my trust, and that is what ought to guide you too.
