My '04 Azure Blue Mach1 (long post)

After seeing all the beautiful beautiful detailed cars, I just HAD to detail my car and post my results too. :p I finally found some time and this is my process:

NXT wash using the 2 bucket method

Started some prep by hand with MPPC and #9, but stopped because I think I was doing more damage than good. :(

Wizard's Shine Master Polish & Sealant x2 (It was available locally.)

NXT x2

Mother's Clear Coat Wheel Polish followed by Wizard's Shine Master on the rims

NXT Protectant on the tires

Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer on the trim, side view mirrors, front spoiler (might try 303 Protectant next time)

Here's the end results:

One reason why I love Azure Blue, besides all the Mach1 ads I've seen, is that it seems to take on a range of blues, from a light, brite blue (reminds me of a Grabber Blue) to a dark medium blue in different lighting conditions (sunny, dusk, etc). It's kinda hard to describe. And well, the pictures don't really show this too well. :o

Not all is good though, I have swirls like these all over the car. I don't whether they were a dealer installed option or if I did them. :o I have been trying to prevent the swirls and use the 2 bucket wash method, Meguiar's foam applicators, and MF towels (from Costco) for removal of the polish/waxes, but I guess I'm not careful all the time. :(

Hopefully I can get a PC, some better MF towels and knowledge gained from here to take care of them because doing them by hand is too much work, not to mention it's irritating to see!

Sorry for the long post, I was just excited to show off my results. :bounce I have more pictures in my Photobucket Album .

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks,

Reid

Look like spider swirls to me, not rotary holograms. A PC and Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze would do wonders on those.

I agree about that blue, cool how it changes depending on the angle you look at it and available light. Very shiny too!

Very very nice! Looked perfect till you mentioned the swirls. But hey, I'm fighting the same battle. Great job and nice color! Didn't want to wait for the new 'stang, huh?

hey, I got an 04 GT. I also got the complementary dealer installed swirl package. :) Unfortunatley once you do get the swirls out, they will still keep popping up, as the paint seems pretty soft on mine and scratches very easily.

I like your color cause it is the old school mustang color, but I like the true blue also, its pretty sweet cause of the metallic.

How did you deal with the decals?

I noticed you have the stock three feet long antenna :) It is pretty easy to shorten and paint it black for a cleaner apperance.

Scottwax - Thanks! I'll be sure to try that once I get a PC. :)

jrocc1212 - Thanks! And I guess swirls is something we're gonna have to constantly fight, huh? I actually don't care too much for the '05 Stang. While it is nice, it does look too much like the original, and if I wanted an original Stang, I'd just get one of those. :P Plus I love the look of the '99-'04, a nice musculary modern look.

LouisanaJeeper - Sweet Stang! Nice front spoiler. ;) I love my Mach1 and how the Azure Blue is like the old Grabber Blue. It's kinda funny how I think the Mach1 is more like the '69/'70 Boss 302 with a high-revving, small-block. Plus the stripes are similar.

For the decals on the side of the car, I just did my best to avoid putting anything on them. For the stripes on the hood, I just went over them with the Wizard's and NXT, and tried to remove most of the residue along the stripe's edge. I should be having the dealer replace those soon because the side ones are starting to peel and the hood stripe was scratched.

I love the 3 foot antenna and how it bends when I'm driving fast. :D LOL. Just kidding, it's annoying but I haven't found time to cut it down. But I'll have to try that soon.

assbreeze - Thanks!

I agree here, I think the styling is much closer to the '70 BOSS 302 than the Mach 1. You could get the shaker hood on just about any V8 powered Mustang of the day but, I think most people associate it with the BOSS 302.
