MTM Hydro Versions

I currently own the MTM Hydro Next Gen from Chemical Guys.
I used it with my gas power washer.
I now have a Ryobo electric 1600psi 1.2gpm. and the foam is more like a wet soap now.
Im reading theres a low pressure one available that foams better than the one I have. Can I swap a Part on mine or does Autopia sell the low pressure model?
 
Shawn, I have recently purchased an MTM Foam Lance to go with a new electric pressure washer. The washer leaked and the replacement wont be here until tomorrow. That said, I havent used it yet. That is to say I have no first hand experience with this setup. I have however been doing a good deal of research on the MTM Cannons. I have read that if you have a washer that is below 1800 PSI or 1.4 GPM and youre not getting the type of foam that you would wish to see, you MAY need to replace the jet (orifice) with the 1.1 mm jet. It is my understanding that they all come with a 1.4 jet mm. My cannon came with both jets. They do look very close.
 
Gearhead, was that your new Karcher that leaked? I have been holding off on buying an electric PW because of all the problems I read about. I have a gas PW but it is a pain to use all the time and too loud. I almost pulled the trigger on the Karcher.
 
Yes Rimccarty2000, it was that pressure washer, it leaked the minute I turned the water on so I havent used it yet. Ive been trying to keep everyone updated on the progress of the replacement in the other thread. I too have a big 13 horse Honda powered DeWalt pressure washer and Im trying to do the same thing you are. Its just too big to wash cars, I want a smaller less powerful unit (as it turns out I may end up with 2 of them).

Im not throwing Karcher under the bus just yet as they told me to keep the leaker and have sent me a new replacement. Their program is called the Rapid Exchange Replacement and is covered for 2 years under the warranty. This hasnt been too Rapid by my definition of the word but it is almost here. Im hoping that this is just a bump in the road. Karcher sells a ton of pressure washers and it doesnt suprise me to hear of problems. I just didnt want them to be my problems. ;) I easily located the cracked manifold in the defective pressure washer and intend to fix it. They made some "upgrades" to the K5 Premium unit and the manifold is 26 mm as opposed to the K5s 22 mm manifold. I"m not 100% sure Ive located the replacement part just yet but all of the manifolds on the other machines are coming in at about $50, I will get on it. Ive said this already but the jury is still out on this machine.
 
Any idea where to get the 1.1 jet?
If I recall, mine came with a few things but just think they were the adapters to the power washer.
 
I know they sell the jets from the manufacturer, thats where mine came from, its in China but they sent it quickly considering the distance, customs etc. I got side tracked searching for a Karcher compatabile unit when I purchased and didnt realize I could get it from inside the family. I ordered from an Amazon partner and it happend to be the manufacturer though I didnt realize it at the time. Perhaps Ray would know as these units appear to be identical to the units PBMG sells. I bought the MTM lance from Amazon, specifically looked for the low pressure version. I believe the difference is that the low pressure version allows air into the mix as it comes out to help fluff everything up. The higher pressure (2000+psi) washers rely solely on the pressure to create the foam, the electric pressure washers cant provide this pressure and get a little help I guess.

that being said, mine works excellent. Foams thick and clingy, not runny at all. I use an 1800psi electric.

gearhead Im surprised that Karcher isnt exactly being "rapid" with the exchange. I had an issue with my pressure washer and they had a replacement on my doorstep in about a week no questions asked
 
Well its probably me and my level of expectation. If it arrives tomorrow it wil have been eight days from the time the product was reported defective. I guess its how I view the term rapid, Im thinking two day shipping not ground.
 
Shawn, I screwed up. The two jets available are 1 mm and 1.25 mm. I know I read 1 mm and 1.4 mm somewhere but I cant find that to back up what Ive said.

Obviously a second language for these guys.

There are two kinds of nozzle screw jet sizes, 1.25mm and 1.1mm. Normally, each foam lance is with 1.25mm nozzle screw jet already. You may just need the 1.25mm one for replacement if the previous one is broken for somereason. However, if your pressure washer is with too small pressure or output flow rate, you need this 1.1mm nozzle screw jet on your snow foam lance to produce thicker foam to better washing your vehicle. For example, in USA, as the electricity is just 110v voltage, so most Elecrical power washers are very compact and small pressure, for those pressure washers, most people need this 1.1mm nozzle screw to make thick foam.

Thx GH, Ordered one last night.
I was going to get a few but dont think Ill ever be changing it again. And it shouldnt wear out for residential use.
I havent done many jets in my time so it took a few different screwdrivers to finally get the right one to remove the stock jet. Kinda tore up the screw slot on the original.
Do they sell special screwdrivers for jets? Ill just snug tighten the new one.
 
Mark and Shawn, I didnt know there were two different jet sizes.

But I do have first-hand experience with the low- and high-pressure versions of these foamers.

My take-away conclusion was the only difference between the two versions is the reservoir (bottle). On the low-pressure model, the bottle is thinner and squared off. The high pressure bottle is much thicker.

My more important take-away conclusion is that what matters most is the condition of the little thimble-sized filter inside the injector.

Once it gets gunked up from soap residue and mineral deposits, the foamer produces thinner foam. Fortunately, AutoGeek sells these. I believe they cost around US$5 each.

Ive replaced the filter on my foamers twice and each time I got much thicker foam.
 
Shawn, a tapered screwdriver might do exactly as youve said, tear the jet up. A gunsmithing driver is flat for a considerable distance up the shaft (hollow ground is the term). The right size hollow ground or precision ground driver is ideal for changing jets. The trade off is that these are more difficult to keep sharp. You must use a rotary file or rotary sanding disc.

Most often you can clean up a jet thats been buggered up and it will work just fine. Its likely that you didt hurt the orrifice all the way through and the jet is only as big as the smallest opening.

If you look closely you can see the difference in contact area of the two types of drivers. This isnt a big deal when using steel screws but is a huge difference when using softer metals like brass.

Thanks Jaddie for the insight, I look forward to trying this out. That was a great comparison video and your set up is what Im looking for and similar to what Ive gotten using my gas pressure washer. My replacement washer is supposed to arrive today. UPS shows it to be out for delivery.
