I did this one for my best freind and soon to be college roomate Nick aka MrRogue. We detailed the truck this winter but We didnt remove all of the deeper scratches that were in the paint. I safely removed about 95% of the defects this time. I did the inside and engine but of course forgot to snap pics. Maybe nick can help me out with that later?

Process:

Wash Z7
Clay Z18
HTEC/OP 50-50 via meguiars burgendy cutting pad @1500
Menzerna Po85rd via lake country VC 7.5" Black finishing pad @1500
Z6 wipedown
Z5pro (Zfx'd) on paint, glass, chrome, rims, and exhaust
Z8

The front bumper wears z16 (good job of restoring the dull trim)
CG VRT on all other trim

Tires and Wells cleaned with Meguiars wheel brightner and pressure washer
Wells dressed with hyper dressing 2:1
Tires dressed with z16 and 2nd coat of VRT (Z16 dried blotchy)

Your attention to detail on the wheels, tires, wells, and lower rockers shows your passion for the craft.


How do you like Z5 Pro? In these last sets of pictures, it looks deeper/wetter than your previous run with the standard version of Z5.

Where did you get the swirl finding light?

For Z16, make sure you clean with a good cleaner first. I love TOL's Tire Cleaner cut 50/50. Apply the Z16 on a sponge rather generously. You want the product to bead up a little bit on the tire. Let it sit for 10, then go around and add more/massage in. I have found this to work great.

Thanks Sean! I love the new z5pro. I definatly find it deeper and wetter than the original z5. The light is a brinkmann dual xenon. I got it at autobarn.com for about 30 bucks. I will try your technique with the z16 next time. Thanks.

Absolutly,

The two products used are Hi Temps Extreme Cut Compound and Optimums Polish. The Extreme cut is only available through topoftheline.com

I put down a quarter size bead of polish and compound next to each other and then spread and buff. I usually take 4 or so overlapping passes to break down the combo and eat away the swirls. All it takes is a light finishing polish to clean up the haze and very minimal holograms.

Thats all there is to it!

Yep.

And just to add; minimal dusting, splatter, and gumming, if any.
 
This on a PC or rotary?
I use the EDGE 2K pads for pc. Which one do you recommend?
Tell me why this combo works so well.

Rotary @1500 rpm.

The extreme cut works great and killing off the swirls and scratches and the optimum polish just makes it alot easier to work with, and helps it finish cleaner.

As far as edge pads, with the above combo use a light cut or cutting pad.

What are your thoughts on Zaino after a few details?

Have you tried mixing up Z5Pro/Z2Pro (50/50), zfx'd with some Z8?
The next time you detail a metallic -try this combo.

I love it! I have a chrysler pacifica lined up for Monday (100 temps ick). I will do that combo then!

I did a z2/z5 combo on my jeep, it worked well. But one thing I have noticed is that is you put it on too thick you get dark smears on the finish as Zaino is not like a wax in that it just sits on top of the paint
 
Looks great! Whats the trick for detailing the wheel wells/suspension components? Do you wipe everything down, or spray something special on it to help clean it up?

Very nice work.
 
When you are doing all the glass/paint/chrome with the Z5 are you using the same pad? I would assume that it would get a little soiled after going over all those areas? (I seem to always notice no matter how clean something is a little dark edge appears on the pad!!!!)

Eh, not really. I hit the chrome and exhaust, and wheels with apc prior to sealing so there isnt any huge buildup there. The windows also get cleaned prior to sealing.
