Mower+ROCK = DENT (pic)

My Son was mowing the lawn yesterday when we heard my Wife's car alarm going off. She shut it off and then my 12 year old Son came in with a look like "OH SH*T" He said he hit a hidden rock with the tractor and it hit the car. We went out to look and holy cow!! The dent must be 1/2" deep and 3" long. Plus there are two scratches to the bare metal. I put some primer on it to keep from rusting and will read David's article on chip repair. It's just a good thing nobody was out there when that rock was hit. I mean the tractor was stopped when he hit the rock and it was almost parallel to the car. It flew over 50' and made a "glancing" blow next to the door. If that had hit anybody ........ I hate think!!

New rule, NO ONE is allowed outside any-ware near the tractor when its mowing the lawn.

Kids shouldn't cut grass, especially with a tractor. Sorry, that that happend to your car, it sucks when that happens.

He is "very" careful with the lawn-tractor(Its a 13HP Husky with 42" deck)A lawn tractor.. I DON't let him mow the lawn with the push mower or weed whacker. He isn't allowed to mow near the road. Or hoarse around. He will be 13 next month.
 
Oh don't take it that I was flaming ya or anything, I'm only 15, and still don't feel comfortable cutting grass near other people, or even around cars.
 
Neighbors probably think I am crazy when I pull my car out of the garage to get the tractor out and then back in the garage, with the door closed, when I cut.



The blade speed is intense and you never know when some kid hit a golfball into the yard, etc...



I am going to use this as a reminder to keep my kids inside when I cut the grass.



I have always wondered why people pull the rubber grass discharge deflector off their tractors. I know it disperses the grass clippings better, but it also lets the blades throw things at much higher angles. Most of my neighbors have the discharge chutes off.:(

The scary part is we had the grass catcher twin bag on! It came out from under the deck NOT the discharge chute.

Yeah, keep the kids in the house.

12 seems old enough for your son to be mowing the lawn. I can't remember how old I was when I started, but it was before 12. I guess live and learn. Too bad about the dent.
 
FYI.............



I would scuff the area up a bit with steel wool, wipe it down with ISO alcohol and glop some touch up paint on it. Most primers absorb water and the metal will rust in short order. You arent going to repair that in the driveway so I wouldnt be worried about fixing it at home.

WOW, you're only 15 and own 3 nice cars and a boat? :bow Way to go! Especially the '03 FX45! I was 22 before I bought my first "new" car.



BTW, you're comfortable piloting a 21' boat, but not a lawnmower?:nixweiss :hm



Sorry 'bout that dent, looks like a tough spot to try PDR work, but maybe a body shop could help. As to just touching up the scratch, that'd make it look less noticeable fer shure. Good luck!:xyxthumbs

I think I was 10 when I started. $3 for the front and back.
 
Yeah that could have happened to anyone, nothing to do with him being a kid. Thats just one of those things...

Sorry to hear that.

I watched a similar incedent happened to my neighbor.

The kid that was cutting his grass was using a push lawnmower. He hit the steel cap of the water main. The cap flew 30 feet and hit my neighbor's alloy wheel. It's a lexus.

Good thing it did not hit the winshield or the body.
 
Kinda reminds me of when i was cutting my grandpas grass with his riding mower and hit a rock. Launched to rock against the garage (good thing its brick) and bent the blade so bad that the next corner i turned the blade dug in and stalled.



Sucks about your truck. Could happen to anyone though.
 
Hey, I don't own them, I just clean them and drive them. Also, boats are easy to drive, but I don't drive that one.



My dad bought a Jet Ski for me, and we built a 16 foot speed boat for me to drive around in. I don't know why he put a 250 hp engine on it though. :S
