Mothers vs Meguiars Clay Bar

Hi all, I am a newbie to the forums.. I live in Australia, unfortunately I having problems finding decent detailing products. Basically all we have is Meguiars, Mothers, Turtle Wax etc... what I need to know is, I am detailing my show Acura/Honda Integra, and was planning to use a Claybar, but just need to know which is best... I would use Zaino but is near impossible to get here..



So which will work better: Meguairs Clay Bar $37.50AUD or the Mother Claybar $45.99AUD.. which would you guess suggest??



Currently the car is coated in Gold Class, with average results, I am less than impressed with Meguiars ATM... I wish I could get Zaino here somewhere, saw it in US a couple years back, should have bought more :)



Here is the shine of the car ATM I want better :) Can it be achieved??

People here seem to prefer the Mothers clay over the Meguiars. Don't remember ever reading any glowing comments about Meguiars clay here.



I use Zaino clay and from what I've read here, it basically is the same as Mothers. If true, then I would give Mothers clay a :up .

Good to see another Aussie on the forum. You might want to give 3m clay a shot. I've used both Meguiar's and mothers and prefer 3m.



You can get 3m from paint supply stores within some new car dealerships, or try your local panel shop they would be able to either order it in or tell where to go. Its relatively cheaper also between $25 & $30AUD.



I use it on clients cars with Meguiars High Tech wash #00 for lube. Keep a container of hot water nearby, and when you need to rehape or remold it dunk it in the water for a couple of seconds.



Where in Australia are you from? Both myself and Myles (another Autopia member) are from MElbourne.

Oh great! I just picked up some Megs clay... All I need is staining :o



Oh well, back to Clay Magic or my Zaino clay.

If you have the Quik Clay, it does a nice job. Just make sure to be very generous with the lube. The streaks it leaves are the worst I've seen (though I also used it when I was the least familiar with clay). It leaves actual clay behind (white streaks), not just the sort of darkish haze most clays leave. And it is a real pain to remove them. However, as long as it doesn't streak it really does a nice job, and the clay is easy to fold. So if you use it, just spray away with the QD. Go nuts with it.



I found Mother's clay to be pretty unlikely to leave marks, but it is also incredibly hard. It is hard to get it flat onto the paint, it doesn't readily become flat as it is worked over the paint (you can only hand-press it but so flat), and it is very hard to fold in when the side gets dirty.

I've used both, I prefer Mothers by a mile but I didn't get any streaking/staining from Meguiar's. I just preferred Mothers a lot more.

I prefer to use and endorse the Clay Magic blue clay bar, with Meguiar's Final Inspection as the lubricant...Excellent clay bar..

Clay Magic for me, worked very well, don't have to include the Mother's polish with the kit,only some spray lube.Read something about Clay Magic being the inventor and is suing other makes like Mother and Meg's for making a clay bar?? Probably nothing will come about since I bet the Mothers and Meg's formula is slightly different hindering the law suit null.
 
I prefer Mother's over Meguiar's. Most of us agree that the Meguiar's QuikClay leaves behind hard-to-remove residue, and that their professional clay is too abrasive for regular use.

I ve found a place in OZ that sells Clay Magic if your interested but they only sell to trade at this stage. PM me and I'll give you the details. Maybe I can get it in for you.

Why does everyone say that my pic is a Photocrop?? That is actually how my car looks, it was taken with a 4 megapixel camera, hence the detail. There is NO photocropping or editing in that pic... honest!

I use Mother's Clay all the time but somehow lost my clay bar. I went to get a new one and all they had was Meguiars. Went home and used it on my girls car. It took me more time to get clay residue off than to detail it! I HATED it and will never use it again.
 
I have used mothers is a little hard but it does a decent job. Not to much residue.

I neved worked with meg so I can not tell but You mention Zaino clay bar. That is the way to go. No residue, soft, you can reshape it very easy.

Yep I tend to agree the Z18 bar does a good job as well as Mothers. My favorite is between Z18 and Clay Magic 200g bar. They do point out if you do not use the Auto-Magic QD with it, it does not last as long. Doesn't seem to be effected, but it's still to new.



Z18 does mold easy, pulls off surface contaminants well.



Meguirs needs more improvement in the amount left behind.
