Mothers Reflections spray wax

I'm looking for advice from those who have used the product.

I picked up a bottle last year and got scared off when I first tried using it.

I was expecting a fluid that would spray mist like a QD because its called a spray wax.

what happened on the first shot to the hood was that it came out in a high speed viscus jet that hit the hood and splattered in all directions (on me, windscreen wipers, everywhere!). It is like shooting a normal liquid wax out of a squirt gun.

IS that how this product is supposed to be???

I cleaned up and finished with a more familiar product in frustration.

If you all could let me know if my bottle is normal that would be great.

Also if you could let me know your application process for this stuff and what you think of it.

Thanks!

i believe it's thicker compared to fx spray wax (which i use), the way i apply spray wax's is to use a mf applicator (for even coverage) and spread it around one panel at a time, and then buff off with a mf towel...

Yes, it is very thick. (and surprisingly easily splattered for being so thick!) Obviously, shake it well before and during use.

I used it by either spraying the cloth or giving slow, partial pulls on the trigger. This still leaves a "string" of wax, rather than an even mist on the paint, but it works. One thing that I've done is use it after a wash, while the car is still wet. the water helps to spread it out, the wax still dries well/quickly, and you save the drying step. Some people have mixed the wax with water in a spray bottle to get a finer mist, but I haven't, so I can't say if this is better or not.

Overall, though, I think it leaves a nice look and is fairly quick to use since, even though you need to let it dry, it dries quickly. You could even use it in a wash bay (if they allow it).

Its a great product but needs to be used with some skill.

As has been mentioned, shake well for about a minute, then spray onto applicator, then apply to paint letting it dry.

Using it on a wet car is a great idea as it removes one step and helps a little bit go further.

Mothers products are very under-rated and don't get the mention they deserve IMO.

Reflctions Spray Wax, while working well, is no easier to use than the regular Reflections Advanced Wax. This has got to be one of the best OTC waxes on the market. I highly recommend it. :up

Is the spray wax another version of the base wax or the Top Coat? From what I have read, Top Coat is more pure wax. The base coat is light cleaners and a synthetic wax.

I think its more like the base coat. It's pure synthetic and has very light cleaning ability.

Tried again over the weekend, and am quite happy.

Why they put it in a spray bottle I don't know. I used it just like a regular liquid wax but left the car a little damp while applying (good tip).

The only problem was I let my applicator get too wet resulting in some narrow crevices filled with product. Learned pretty quick to keep the applicator damp not wet.

So in the end ease of application was about average.

I did like how cleanly it came off. No dusting, or excessive force needed. It hardly clogged up my microfiber during removal as well which was nice. Didn't have to switch spots on the towel much.

Slickness seems about average, and the pollen is having a hard time taking hold.

At first I didn't think it looked to special, but after a few days I really like it.

Average swirl filling ability, but very smooth look. Doesn't add much reflectivity, but really adds a warm depth. It doesn't look like there is anything coating the paint, which I think is nice. Most definitely one of the better matches to this paint color.

I am excited to see what durability is like.

Btw, tires are done with Mothers Reflections tire product. Again, does not look like a coating, just darkens nicely.

Thanks for the replies, here's a pic

Car looks real nice. I've used it a couple times on my car but its red. Adds a good amount of slickness to the paint and brings a bit more depth like you said.

It also works very well on a wet car just after you wash it.

I use a very small amount on the wet car than dry like usual, adds a little protection and shine each time you wash.

Ok, I'm not sure what you guys are talking about...

I just ordered/received my bottle of Mothers Reflections Spray Wax.

It reminds me of Pinnacle Crystal Mist. Very thin; milky looking and watery. Goes on/acts almost exactly the same.

Bottle has a VERY nice sprayer that mists quite well when given a full stroke. I used it today and its basically and on/off product. Very much like CM or even a traditional QD of any kind.

The bottle even states that its meant to be a "booster" type product; not a standalone wax.

Here is the exact bottle/product I got and am talking about...

DISCUSS...

Did you shake it like crazy for 60 seconds? It should come out like a thick creamy stream...unless they re-formulated it in the past few months and didn't tell anybody.

I shook it quite well. Bottle was really full; so not that much room for the product to move around.

I opened the bottle/removed sprayer and looked in it. Its thin/milky-white; definitely not gellatin-like. Sprayed really easily; very much like Pinn. CM.

I'll try it again today and see, maybe I didn't shake it long enough.

UPDATE:

Shook vigorously for several minutes today...

Reapplied...definitely the same results. I don't consider this product to be "thick" at all. Its not like water necessarily; but it sprays nicely and certainly doesn't "jet stream" across the hood or anything weird.

I like it overall, certainly wouldn't use it as a standalone. It does work really well over Natty's Blue though!

Well... that's excellent! I'm glad to hear it working so well. I'm just surprised that it differs from my earlier experience with it. Definitely thicker. Now it sounds it is as it should be. :bigups

Thanks for posting that over there. I was just browsing Mothers the other evening as well.

I do wonder if the new version is functionally any different in terms of durability.

I reapplied it again and it definitely looks a little better after the second coat.
