Mother's products

I have used mother's for approximately for three years now after switching from Meguiar's products after two years. I keep hearing both of these as being referred to as OTC. I have always had good luck with both but IMO I feel Mother's does a better job, applies/removes easier, and gives you a wetter and slicker look.



I do like the fact how the products are labeled as far as wax, glass cleaner, tire shine, etc. I don't have to guess at numbers, cutting compounds, pads, etc. I was just wanting some input on how they compare to other companies. I have heard a lot about Klasse, Sonus, and wondering how they compare and if there is anything else people would like to tell me about.



I am just a weekend detailer doing it for my own enjoyment and satisfaction and on my vehicles there aren't any defects or anything that requires anything other than my hands. I have done a car or two for family or relatives but I won't do it unless their paint is in good shape. I tell them I am not a miracle worker.
 
IMO both Mother's and Meguiar's make excellent products. The OTC just means "Over The Counter"... meaning you don't have to order them, you can just go to your local Pep Boys and pick them up.



I think the Mother's Reflections line is especially good.



As far as how they compare. Again IMO they are probably right on par with Klasse, Sonus etc.



I used Meguiar's for ten years before I found this site. I now generally use Zaino just because it seems to last longer, BUT as for the look... honestly NXT looks really really great so for me it just came down to durability.



But I still have and use many Meguiar's products :)



There are a lot of people who swear one sealant is better than another, but to me it just comes down to preference in the end.



If you're curious you should check out the products you mentioned, but if you're happy with the Mother's I don't think you're going to go wrong.
 
Meguiars only uses numbers in the Professional line. The A-line all has names on the bottles.



I also believe both make great products. I only use Meguiars because my brother introduced me to them when I was younger so I kinda grew up using their products. I take alittle pride in that.



Their customer service and dedication to their customers also continues to win me over. Who else travels around the states and has classes to teacher people about paint correction free of charge?
 
Mothers does have the clearest product labeling out there (no fancy marketing descriptions) and agree they are very consumer friendly (easy on/easy off) with good results. Although called OTC, not all are not widely available (too bad) as Meguiars in parts stores although many places can special order. Pep Boys has picked up the FX line of products so the have all 3 families (3 Step, FX, and Reflections but no Top Coat).
 
I do all of my purchasing over the web anyway. I usually get enough at a time to usually get free shipping. If I run out early I will make a trip to Pep Boys and where I live, Wal-Mart just started carrying the clay bar. The only thing I really can't find are the accessories. I just don't trust what you can buy at Wal-Mart or AutoZone. I just don't think they have the top of the line products. They usually have a real hard and short nap microfiber towel and I don't like sponges to wash with. I was always taught that companies make products that are designed to work together.
 
I switched to Mothers, way back in my pre anal detail days, from Meguiars because Meguiars always left me with streaks and was not friendliest to work with. Mothers and hand application treated me well for years when I was just a weekend detailer.

If you want Mothers towels, then try Detailer's Dream (google for url). They sell the 20x24 Detailing Towel for $4.99 - a deal for a 70/30 korea towel. I find it the perfect size for a final wipe or using with ONR. I do not like large drying towels since they get heavy when wet and want to touch the ground when doing the lower body areas.



They are based in NC so depending on your area, shipping is as little as $5.40 via USPS for an order -- not the usual $8 to $10 for UPS shipment

I have always wondered if it was just "MY" Pep Boys that did NOT carry the Mother's Reflections Top Coat! I think they're missing out on one of the best products from the Mother's Reflections line.

I agree that Mother's products being called "OTC" is somewhat of a misnomer if you're looking for their really good stuff--that being their FX and Reflections lines. On the rare occasion that I see the full complement of these products, I feel like shaking the store manager's hand. I've yet to see their towels available locally at all unfortunately, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to get them, too (the fact that they're made in Korea is reassuring).

I saw some the other day in an Auto Zone here in Dallas. I've never used them before so I asked about them on the forum. They got the thumbs up. Guess I'll have to try them out.
 
Even on the Mother's forum I read that the Top Coat is a bit of a toughy to find. Check it out at WAXFORUM.com. I am also a member under the same name. I do most of my ordering from MICROFIBERPRODUCTSONLINE.com but I am going to have to do some comparison shopping. Last time I ordered I forgot what the other site was but the other site had cheaper products but their shipping was outrageous so I saved money by using MICROFIBERPRODUCTSONLINE.com. Their shipping was less than half.
 
The least expensive online place is www.waxstation.com. Shipping starts at around $8 (UPS). They ship the next business day. Detailer's Dream is better if you order small ($5.40 min).
 
May i know that is there are anyone use the Mothers CA Carnauba Wax Step 3 before? From what i read from the review, it seem that Mothers Cleaner Wax has a better gloss, dept and slickness if compare to the step 3. Is it true?:nixweiss
 
I've had experience with both and prefer the look of the Cleaner Wax more...a bit like S100.



The Natural Carnauba reminds me of the look of #16.

If on silver metalic and grey which one you recommended ?

The cleaner wax is really good which was suprising for a one stepper!



Personally on silvers and a like i think the FX Syn wax looks great :2thumbs:

FredTay, have you been using just the step three or in conjunction with one and two? On my gloss white paint it really gives it a deeper richer look. On my wife's metal flake khaki paint the cleaner wax gives it more shine.



I want to try some FX Synwax on my wife's metal flake to see how it shines.
