Mothers Powerpolish vs M80/M83

Hi,

I'm waiting for my PC to arrive from autogeek and I've also ordered M80. But I want a little bit more cutting polish and so, thinking whether Mothers Powerpolish would be the one? Powerpolish's abrasiveness is the same as M80 or similar to M83? I've a orange and white pads to go with.

So, If I already have M80, buying Powepolish would be a waste?

Thanks,

Mothers Power Polish is a pad dependent polish and it has a very long work time. It does not really work with like traditional diminishing polish (works for 4 minutes then done). You just work it until you have the correction you want.

You can use with yellow, orange, green, white, etc pads. I cannot say it has the same cut as M83 (people have said it does) but I suspect it am sure it would take just take longer. I have used it with an orange pad with good results. The key is to not use too much polish.

Sorry If I'm wrong. In Mike's posts, he strongly suggest to avoid using Cutting Pads (Like Orange and Yellow Pads) with PC as they could produce marring which are difficult to remove with PC. I know that he's also one of the gurus in car detailing and so I'm a lot confused whether that theory is only true with meguiars products or true with all other products (like Mothers Power polish with Orange Pad).

Thanks,

Well, considering the pad causes it and not the polish, I would think it would apply across the board.

To clarify, I think Mike is referring to the fairly harsh Lake Country Orange and Yellow pads, and definitely NOT the Meguiar's yellow pads.

On that note, Mike also suggests using a common system...keyword being SYSTEM. IE, either #83 and #80, OR two Mothers products. He's not just trying to get people to buy all Meg's products, either, he said he would rather people use a common system whether it is Meg's or not because the products are usually intended to work better and if problems occur trouble shooting is much easier with a common system.

People have a LOT of success with #83 and #80 on a PC, why not stick to those? :nixweiss

not all situations are the same and while one company says not to use the orange pad with their product, another will. i've used a LC orange pad with OC and was able to go straight to the LSP. it just depends on the situation and that's why you perform a test spot first...

Actually, Meguiars recommends avoiding the Meguiars burgandy cutting pad with a PC, not the LC orange, etc. LC pads are fine.

As to Power Polish, you don't really need two polishes, unless you want a stronger cut. All you need are two different pads. An orange or yellow cutting pad, then finish off with a white polishing pad. This will work like using two different polishes. With Power Polish you adjust the cut with the pad.

IME, Power Polish and an orange pad will give you a tad less cut than #83. Going to a yellow cutting pad will give you about the same cut. And as mentioned, don't use as much polish as a traditional polish.

When it comes to polishes, mixing brands is no issue. It's done on this forum since forever, with no issues. Mike P was referring to glaze/LSP systems.

Hi Alfisti,

So, you've really tried PowerPolish with LC Orange & Yellow Pads without marrings on dark colour cars. If so, I'm so happy as I have orange pad and I don't know where to use it with PC. Please help me clarify this, brother.

Thanks

Just to clarify, is this the power polish that is available OTC or something from the pro line?

I have used orange and Power Polish on a black vehicle with good results but as said on some paints you may need to use a white pad with Power Polish to remove any pad induced marring.

As bunky said, you may need to finish with a white pad/MPP but no biggy.

It won't marr like the burgandy pad. Maybe the new V2 burgandy may work better...don't know.

Orange pad/MPP will marr hardly at all...if any. Finishing with a white pad will bring up the gloss.
