heres another review from what i expereinced this past weekend. ive been a loyal fan of Meguiars (still am) for a long time now and have used their clay bar for roughly over 2 years or so. I bought the mothers clay bar to see how it competes since theres another review saying the mothers was better for them. so here goes...
note:
i used the mothers clay bar on the whole car. took this experience in comparison to all the other times i used my meguiars bar in the past. i did not do half car meguiars, half mothers to compare.
so after i did my usual washing with gold class form meguiars, i dried like i normally did with my abosrber and touched up with my MF towel. now its nice and ready to be clayed after about 5 months since its last clay.
at first the QD that came with the clay smelled ok. it was a bit to minty smelling for my taste. it did its job perfectly well in terms of lubricating and getting contaminants off.
the clay bar itself was kind of a disappointment. first compared the Megs, its waaaay smaller. texture is a bit too rubbery which makes it incredibly hard to kned. Megs was softer and bigger. but i think the worst part of the clay was how effectively it does its job. i literally had to do a second pass of the clay on a panel the first time i used it. when i glided the clay, it just didnt pic k up as much contaminants as it would have with Megs. so on the second try, i had to not only do it again, but press a bit hard to really reach my satisfied result. that clay just wasnt good in terms of leaving ur surface truely clean and slick compared to the Megs clay.
another related issue is that the size and amount of use u can get per package of clay bar kits for mothers is very small compared to the megs. the bottle of QD sprays alot more compared to the MEgs QD bottle (which i love) so it runs out quicker and with their smaller clay that can only do about 3 average cars, it really makes me reconsider its price to the number of use ratio.
one good thing that was very obvious for the mothers clay was the ease of use of the clay bar. since its more rubbery, it practically NEVER smudges no matter how hard u press or hit that piece of clay on the paint while the meguiars was alot easier to smudge where u would have to buff it off. but this comes to the sacrifice of having the clay bar not clean as well as the meguiars too.
so over all i must say i was disappointed with the Mothers clay bar kit. mostly due to the fact that their clay just didnt clean as well as the MEgs. further more, u get less uses out of their whole clay package compared to Megs. but their QD compared to the Megs seemed to clean a bit better by itself, though it was a bit harder to wipe off also with any kind of towel.
so for me, the winner is Meguiars Clay Bar over the Mothers. MEguiars work great, smell WONDERFUL, and get lots of uses out of each kit. plus the QD is really a gem if u use carnuba waxes for toppers.
so theres another review for ya, hope it helps
