Mothers California Gold Clay System

This Mothers kit is my favorite for many reasons.

1. It is very easy to find. Just about any auto store will have this kit.

2. Very reasonably priced at around $16.99

This kit comes with a yellow clay bar, 16oz detail spray (clay lube) and a 4oz bottle of Carnauba cleaner wax.

If you want a very easy to use kit that is available just about anywhere, I'd highly reccomend this kit. It has very clear instructions if this is your first time claying. You'll be amazed at how smooth your paint is if it has never been clayed before! Remember, if you ever drop the clay on the ground, throw it away! Have fun!

I agree with what mike said about the clay. I have purchased this clay before. I would however not buy this clay package again. I dont like that it comes with cleaner wax. It usuaully ends up sitting around until I throw it away. I dont use the clay lube either. I usually use adams DS. So if you dont plan on using the lube or cleaner wax i would just look for clay.

I'm on my second Mothers clay bar (bought the kit both times, DOH!), I've never used the Cleaner Wax, but I've used the DS on some occasions. I think I'll be trying Clay Magic soon though...

The kit is pretty good. The clay is softer than Clay Magics, also Showtime is a top notch QD spray.

I use the cleaner wax on door jambs, not much else to use it on.

I use this clay a lot, it was on sale for $8 so I picked up a few. I give the cleaner wax away to my friends who don't do much detailing, it's actually a decent wax if you're not used to better things. I like the clay itself, I haven't tried any other clays, but from my experience it does the job and so I have no reason to switch until I run out. I like that you can easily break up the bar into three pieces to save yourself from wasting a whole bar if you drop it.

Clay is the miracle of miracles, its the only way to get out the enbedded dirt and scum out of paint short of compound or acid. For otc use Mothers and Auto Magic make the best clay.

I bought this kit and like it a lot. I really liked the QD and the clay was very good but I had no use for the cleaner wax. This time around I bought the clay magic kit for 10 bucks because I have no need for the QD and the wax but for a beginner it's great.

Katieee,

Use the cleaner wax for areas like door jambs and sills... or under the hood! :bigups

No sense letting it go to waste.

I'd of never thought about that! Usually I just hit it with a diluted degreaser or some Stoners, I'll have to try waxing door jams and such next time :bigups

I used Claymagic the first time, but it got really dirty cause it was the first time i ever clayed. I might give the mothers kit a try next time. The claymagic clay was a little to hard for my liking.

I was contemplating on buying the wax....I bought mother`s polish, wax, aluminum polish...etc... I feel nice and dumb for not buying the clay :ghost

I just picked up one kit today (before reading this tread). I got it on sale for $12.99 at Autobacs on Beach Blvd in Stanton (Orange County, So. Cal). I don't use the cleaner wax either. I got it because it was on sale.

can u just buy this clay by itself???

I'm not sure about Mother's, but if you want only clay, you can check out some of the sponsor sites. I know you can get clay by itself - in a piece or by buying it in bulk.

You're so lucky to have that store near you. I was in that area for about a week and I went there. Wow! I picked up one of the Japanese waxes, I'll be writing a review on it once I have time to try it out.

I use Mothers as well & love it. I recently tried the Adams detail/lubri. as a quick detailer alone w/o the clay & it made such a difference (my paint was already clean). I now want to try it with the clay.

I bought a mothers clay bar when i started out and it works fine .. now i use something different but i think its ok for a store bought product

I'm surprised by all these positive comments about Mother's clay. I had a terrible experience with the stuff. It would just fall apart on me...maybe it was just my batch of clay? I ended up calling my buddy for a piece of his Blackfire Polyclay(which is what I usually use) to finish up my car.

Anyone know of a good place to get Mother's clay at a good price. All I need is the clay bar and not the detailer or the wax. I believe Zaino clay is the same, which I am currently using, but was wondering about other options. Would buy it from Zaino, but don't need anything else yet. Thanks!

I had a very good experience with the Mother's clay, but I find the Opti-Clay ($10 for 4oz. on autogeek.net instead of $17 for 2.8oz. of Mothers clay) to be just as good, except with a larger bar in each package.
