Most recognized guitarist !!!!

I guess I have to go with Hendrix and Clapton, too.

I thought I might be able to make a case for Chuck Berry because of his duck walk, but I called my son who loves music and he immediately nixed the idea. I also like the suggestion of B. B. King, but I doubt he has the name recognition that either Hendrix or Clapton enjoys.

What about George Harrison?

Don't rule our BB King...the oldest person you can find, will know who BB King is. It's really hard to compete against 60+ years of recognition in the music industry. Even greats like Clapton are neophytes when compared to BB. My Grandma knows who BB King is and she doesn't know too much about music at all.

I said Lennon in an ealier post...I think he's the more recognizable of the two, round glasses and all. Actually IMO Harrison is the least recognizable of all the Beatles, though he is my personal fav.

If you go down this path, I really have to think Elvis would trump all with respect to physical recognition. He did play guitar...

When you say most recognized Hendrix comes to mind in part due to his unfortunately young death. His career was short enough that his appearance didn't change radically and his exposure from Woodstock, posters, and T-shirts is a vision a lot of people have in their mind.

Eric Clapton and many others have been around so long that their appearances have changed as they got older. It would depend on what stage of their career they were in if they'd be recognized by a non-fan.

So for the second name I'll go with Roy Clark. I think his years on television may have made him one of the most recognizable guitarists to the general public.

My personal two favorites would be Hendrix and Henry Vestine a.k.a. "The Sunflower" from Canned Heat. R.I.P.

Hendrix and Page. Honorable mention to Al Dimela who is a great jazz guitarist...anyone into jazz would know and recognize him.

For most recognizable I would go with Hendrix and BB King.

Personal favorites would have to be

1. Stevie Ray Vaughan

2. Jimmie Page

Satriani and Dimeola are great players but just not my favorite style.

Another great guitarist that no one has mentioned was Duane Allman.

OK, since this has gotten away from the OPs original question and people want to name guitarists. :furious:

Robin Trower....Ritchie Blackmore

:bolt.....:bolt.....:bolt
