More than 1 layer of wax...

Atrocity

Ok, so I wash, polish, wax my car quite frequently (like 3-4 times a month) and I was wondering...

If i added another coat (of say Meg. Carnuba) on top of itself, will it do anything for it? Like, will it add another coat, or is it just a waste?

Thanks, guys!

I dunno, but i would only wax once a month. Spend more time on making something else perfect.

Have you taken your wheels off and waxed both sides yet>?

People frequently use the "spit shine" method to layer carnauba waxes. The thought is that by using a lubricant, the solvents in the paste/liquid wax will not soften the previous layers and allow for multiple coats. It is the same method used to shine boots.

There are a couple of detailed posts regarding spit shining on Autopia (maybe on DC, too) but the basic steps are:

1) Make sure paint is clean and free of debris
2) Using a very fine mist, spray a panel with cold, distilled water and apply your carnauba. I allow all carnaubas to haze using this method, even if a WOWO product
3) Remove haze

2 quick questions...
1. Do I do this while the water is still on the car...i mean...apply the wax?
2. Does layering make it have a deeper shine?

Thanks so far, guys!

Yes, you apply the wax with the fine mist of water still on the car.

Layering can enhance the look but you eventually reach a point of diminishing return, often times after two or three coats.

The typical "cure" time for Carnuabas is 5-7 days as well. If you were to add another application before this time, the previous layer is not hardened yet, thus you will be removing a little bit of the first as well. However, keep in mind that even after the 5-7 days, a second application does not necessarily yield 2 layers. Each time you wash your car, "some" of the previous layer, the "dead" portions are removed.

After 3 or 4 washes, a good deal of the carnauba is probably gone (some more that others). Therefore, it's probably a good idea to apply another coat. In that particular case, you not so much adding a coat, as you are replacing the stuff that is gone.

If you want to layer a product you will need one of the sealants like Zaino, Klasse or FMJ. Then do a topper like Pinnacle or P21 if you cannot do without a carnuba look, make sure it is a paste with no cleaners.
