More HD Product confusion

I first started using UNO back in the blue bottle when it was billed as a polish that had various levels of cut based on the pad used. But it could also be used as a finish polish.

I also top coat with Poxy and have used Nitro Seal. .... In the past the steps seemed clear. By hand ... UNO and the orange side of the pad for correction, blue side to polish, Poxy, then nitro seal. Now there seems to be several products in the HD line and no clear "steps" to the usage.

I am wondering:

1. What new HD product best represents the older Blue bottle of UNO? UNO, polish or speed?

2. I currently have a bottle of UNO ... Do i now need HD polish or can UNO be used with an LC black/gray pad and a PC DA as a finsh polish ... Or is there a better product for a finish polish? Which is going to give the best results.

3. Finally, my car was painted 2 weeks ago. Dupont paints 3 coats of clear. Is it safe to use UNO and/or HD Polish to finsh and correct the paint ... Or will these products "seal" seal the paint before. It is cured? The finish ended up with more orange peel than i would have liked. I am not going to sand it, but would want it to at least look a little better.

Thanks for the help

You can still use UNO as an ALL IN ONE, but best to use HD POLISH to finish with. You can use any polish product on fresh paint and HD POXY is fine on fresh paint. Hope this helps.

As for your orange peel, there was a thread about some new denim pads that leveled orange peel but didnt leave hazing like sanding would. May want to look into it as an option.

Welcome! But do remember that HD CUT is a much better compound than HD UNO.

I totally agree. HD CUT will level your defects quickly and then follow up with HD Polish and you'll have a flawless finish. All of HD's polishes and paint protectants are safe for fresh paint as well.

Where would you say HD Cut rates among other compounds and swirl removers? Is it more or less of a cut then say M105 or M100 speed compound?

If you read some of the reviews it's seems to be slightly less cut than 105, but with a much longer working time and little to no dusting if used correctly.

Hard to say and I'll explain why. I've used a ton of M105 throughout the years and still do reach for in certain instances. The biggest downfall of it is it's short work time, dust which isn't really all that bad as long as you know what to expect and how it almost cements itself into cracks at time. It's a very consistent compound and is very easy to interpret how it's going to perform on most paint conditions.

HD CUT on the other hand is my go to for most corrections. Minimal dust, great finish, long work times when needed, and doesn't cake up into cracks. I really like its cutting abilities, especially with rotary applications. After getting a baseline of how it's working on long correction jobs, I tend to swap out to M105 to really get a feel for how it's performing in comparison. I haven't quite been able to tip my hat to M105 in many cases. Yes, it(and M101) cuts faster right out of the gate, but after 2-3 passes I have to say the cutting power evens out and is relative.

I like HD Cut and it does finish very well for a compound. It is excellent for busting swirls but when it comes to RIDS it does take more time than my other go to compound, M100.

Both have their ups and downs, I personally am really fond of the CUT/Speed combination for production type work. I've had nothing but good results from it.

Also, Cut will not dust if used correctly. If you clean your pad often and don't use too much it will perform excellent.

Well I just finished the top of my wife's car (all flat surfaces and door pillars) with an HD Cut / Polish / Poxy combo. Having used M105 on a few panels in the past I have had the same experience as David ... seems to be hard to remove and got into everything.

Cut OTOH ... I was amazed. Not that I have any experience with M105s cutting power, but I did have experience trying to remove it. HD Cut came off super easy, did not dust, none in the cracks and finished up nicely on the 2005 Hyundai Sonata. The paint on this car seems very hard and even after Cut with a DA and LC orange pad I did not think it could look any better ... but hit the hood with HD Polish on an white pad and follow with a black pad ... and :D :D :D

Very happy. Just got both HD Cut and Polish yesterday. 1st time use. And I would say it will be my go to product. I had been using Uno for years ... but I think I like this combo much better.

My next experiment will be on my newly paint Nissan Murano. Going to try UD Cut with the Car Pro Denim pads when they come back in stock to remove some orange peel. Then I will follow the process above and see how it all finishes up.

Very Slick. I have been using Poxy for about 3 + years and always have liked the finish. It came out buttery smooth and glass like and looks really sharp on Silver.

But the Poxy is just a temp topper for bug protection. I plan to remove it all, wash and give an IP wipe in a few weeks because I am going to apply Opticoat

I would do an IP wipe followed by either an ONR wash or Dawn wash to insure the surface is totally bare before Opti-Coating it. Many people are having great success by polishing with Optimum Polish and going straight to the coating.

Thanks ... I do not have any ONR and have used Opti Polish II and did not care for the way it removed and the build up "chalk".

Would you wash with Dawn and then IP or IP and then Dawn?

Personally I would IPA after Dawn, I know many have mentioned Dawn is fine then go to coating,

but then I read of coating failures.

Specifically:

Dish washing detergents usually contain a sheeting agent (Alcohol alkoxylate or sodium) or other additive to avoid water spotting; along with emollients or moisturizers; these work by forming a thin protective coating on the surface of the dishes or glassware and also to protect the skin to prevent any loss of moisture. However emollients make the paint surface more difficult to dry and leave an oily residue on the paint surface, which may negatively affect .product cross-linking / bonding and will also negatively affect the surface reflectivity (Gloss) Dawn specifically uses Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol) as its main cleaning agent.

So here is the final product. This is a 2005 Hyundai Sonata that lives in FL. It is NOT Garage Kept and is out side in the sun most of the time.

The steps I used:

1. Wash and Clay

2. HD Cut with PC DA and LC orange pad

3. HD polish with PC DA and LC white pad

4. HD Poxy with PC DA and LC red pad

5. PoorBoys World Trim Restorer on the Black

6. Turtle wax tire shine

It has not been washed in 5 days

(Oops ... I did not take a Halo pic, but trust me ... there are none, at least on the vertical surfaces)

Ever since I got HD cut, I never looked back. Amazing cut, no dust, longest working time of any other compound and the only one that gets close to it in my experience but it doesn't finish it off like HD cut does is D300. I use with my flex3401 and CCS pads wow, amazing product. I have M100 M101 I only get them out in case I need the extra punch for deeper RIDS other than that, HD cut is the only one. Now I must say, I have just got my hands on Wolfgang Uber 3.0 and wow I am amazed as well, just like HD cut. I can't wait to get my hands on HD adapt.
