MMMMM Metabo rotary

Does the makita have a variable speed trigger? That'd be another difference. The Metabo is on/off, which I don't really see as a huge drawback. The only other "feature" I see is the overheating protection and power failure circuit. If you plug it in while it's in the "on" position, it won't start up automatically (as well if the power fails and comes back on). Aside from that, it feels like a nice solid piece of German engineering :)

Anthony...I heard from someone that you were able to burn paint using a Cyclo ?

Not such a fool proof machine after all if this is in fact what you were able to do.

I don't believe I personally have vever burned paint with a Cyclo, although I am sure it is not impossible to do, especially on a bad re-paint.

The Cyclo can generate some heat on a panel if left in one area long enough, actually it can get an area pretty darn warm, so one should always use caution and good judgement.

If people are getting their finish perfect with this rotary, do you use it on painted plastics also, or break out the pc?

While I was not trying to burn paint, I realized recently how much damage the combination of an abrasive compound (Power Gloss), and the Metabo can do. I was using one of Prowax's yellow waffle type polishing pads, which BTW I think are great. It was the first time using this pad. I buffed a panel using the PG and after I was done, I notice that the raised sections on the waffle pad had been greatly reduced. Basically the pad material was abraded away by the heat etc. The panel, however, had very little marring.

what speed setting were you using to create the above effect on your waffle type polish pad ?

my guess is it was at a higher speed setting ?

CGC2- I think I was on 3, which is 1500. The bottle of PG recommends a range of 1200-1600, I believe. I think I may have primed the pad with a little too much PG. It was getting a little caked on the pad at that point.

Christmas arrived early for me this year.

My in-laws sent me the Metabo 'kit' -full boat, and it arrived yesterday from TOL.

-Metabo Polisher

-Metabo Case

-Backing Plate

-LC Pad kit (Cut, polish, finish pads).

I'm all smiles! The metabo is almost as easy to use as a PC -no kidding. It's VERY smooth, easy to handle, and I love the low 700rpm start up. I haven't used it enough to draw a comparison to my Dewalt 849, but I plan to do that in the coming weeks. I can't imagine that it's going to carry the same load/torque as my dewalt, because it's soooo much lighter. I do miss the trigger that's on my dewalt, because it allows you to 'feather in' your polish on start up to eliminate sling.

Man, this thread makes me want to pick up a rotary. I think I'm going to start saving my money to pick up the Metabo. Damn you people, you always find another way for me to drain my wallet.

Quick question with the metabo, b/c I am receiving one soon...Does the Edge 2000 rotary spindle adaptor fit on the metabo?
