MMMMM Metabo rotary

This has got to be the best purchase I have made in a long time :D

My first rotary was the dewalt849 which is a real heavy weight when it comes to the rotarys. I purchased the Metabo and it is truly amazing how much of a differnce the lighter weight machine makes. Even my finishes come out better seeing I am not fatiged (sp?) by the end of the polishing session.

Anybody with a few extra dollars laying around that wants to jump into the rotary usage I highly suggest you give the metabo a serious look at.

:chuckle: I'm really struggling with this decision. Makita or Metabo. I really can't afford a Metabo right now. I think I will go with the Makita for now and then, when enough money is saved, by the Metabo and place the Makita on ebay. They seem to sell real well over there. Congrats on the Metabo... :sadpace:

For a well maintained vehicle, does polishing with a finishing polish and a rotary produce a better finish than with the PC ?

Usually just quicker. For bad vehicles is where a rotary will burnish up better since it can cut harder. In the end, a machine > hand about 99% of the time.

Rollman: Yes that is the model.

GSR: I think it is jsut the weight of the machine that helps ME get a swirl free finish on black and dark colored cars. with the dewalt it was rare that I could achieve this. With the metabo I can use the weight of the machine only and the finish comes out great. With the Dewalt it seemsI had to try and lift the machine a little on the final few passes which sucked trying to get consistant results.

Been there, done that!

I love my Metabo and can use it all day without exhaustion. My Makita is now only used for "those really bad horizontals". At least I did before my surgery in the middle of May. Have done diddly every since waiting for the fusion to complete.

Damn, I didn't need to read this! I havea DW849 and have been looking at a metabo for a year or so. Can you post back after you do a half dozen or so cars in various conditions to let us know the pro's & con's of this machine?

Can you get a Metabo with the loop handle?...
No bale handle available for the Metabo but the new PE12-175 comes with that black plastic grip over the head. I have't tried it but it looks pretty ideal to me, similar to using the PC without a handle.

PC.

I just bought the Metabo to replace my Milwaukee. There is a huge difference because of the weight and sized. The Metabo is much easier to maneuver. Because it is lighter, fatigue is greatly reduced. I am very glad I finally splurged and bought one.

Sure thing mgm! I should a variety of cars coming up and will let you know how they went.

I am thinking about buying the meguiars handle which is adjustable up and down ect. and see if the thread pattern is the same as the dW849 handle. If not I can re-thread the thing to make it work :)

scottabir - So how do you like the metabo now that you've had some seat time?

I'd like to hear some pro's & con's.

Does the weight of the machine alone do the trick, or do you have to apply some pressure to work out defects?

MGM- I LOVE THIS MACHINE!! man it is so nice to be able to finesse the finish passes without having to try and "lift" the machine to lighten the load. I am getting outstanding results even on black vehicles finishing with a LC blue pad and Menzerna FPII.

I have found myself using a little pressure for the first two passes with a cutting pad and then letting the weight of the machine be all the pressure and that has been working out great for me.

when finishing the weight of the machine is all I use too. The thing is so nice I can barely hold onto the end by the cord and my other hand on the handle and it just glides.

I think this has been the best purchase I have made so far.
