Thought I would share some of my results from this weekend after steam cleaning/shampooing (whatever you prefer to call it) my front seats in my MK6 GTI
Ended up using the Bissell ProHeat carpet cleaner, not the mini hand held one they make. The brush attachment on the carpet version worked just fine. Also used a bit of Folex on a couple of the more significant stains (great stuff for treating spot stains).
Results were very good; I am happy with them. Driver's had some stains that didn't come out completely; they were from the previous owner. There are still a couple very faint marks from them, but are very hard to notice. I'm confident they would come out the rest of the way if I tried a bit more. I'd say the seats are about 95%. I also gave it a shot on the arm rest and it helped get some of the nasty sweat/skin residue out from the previous owner.
Seats only took a few hours to feel try to the surface. I had a fan blowing on them and used a hair dryer to blow on them for awhile. The weather was fairly chilly (upper 50's lower 60's and sunny) but I didn't have any problems with the seats drying out.
