David, I think the definition of 'Pro' is someone that details for a living.
By that logic, this means people like me, gmblack3, Todd Helme, Rasky, Shiny Lil Detailer, Greg Nichols, Marc Harris, Rick Rack, Dave KG & several others aren’t considered “Pros” and have no right to post in the Pro section? If you review some of these people’s thread histories, you’ll find that they’ve created some of the most popular picture threads this forum has ever witnessed. Many of which were made in the original Click N Brag section prior to the split. Even though neither of these people detail “for a living”, do you still feel they shouldn’t be classified as Pro per your prerequisite? And if you do, who’s supposed to supervise someone’s credentials and confirm their status?
The separated PRO DETAILS and CLICK AND BRAG had totally separate feels to them. Everyone was pretty happy with that. Now, it's confusing. I know you guys are trying to fine tune this forum, but trying to please everyone all the time isn't the way to go.
How confusing can this really be for someone? The reason why the 2 forums had a different “feel” to them was because the Click N Brag section (which is original to the forum) has much less viewers. People rarely gave any input or support for the posters there either. Everything concentrated around the Pro sub-section which I felt wasn’t fair to everyone. Why not gather both crowds together and allow viewers and posters to contribute in 1 area? Mutual coexistence means peaceful harmony.
A person’s status and abilities should remain objective no matter whose thread you’re looking at. You shouldn’t discount someone based on where they post, but I’m afraid it has for way too long. I’d put a lot of enthusiast non-Pros up against some of the best Pros in the industry and bet they’d do as good or better job not only showing their work, but creating a better product all together.
It's the pro section that really makes THIS forum what it is. Read ANY detailing post on ANY car forum. No one knows anything (unless one of our pros is in the thread). You don't want that....
The pro before-after section is what makes me understand the level I need to strive for.
I totally don’t agree with this. Autopia is much more than just pictures. It’s the discussion of all things detailing to the highest degree called the Autopian way. We have some of the most knowledgeable people this industry encompasses posting outside of the Click N Brag section every day. It’s not fair to them or anyone else to elude that they don’t matter as much or that you can’t learn from them unless they post their work in the Pro Section.
At the end of the day, we all reserve the right to click on the threads we choose and by whom. Use your best judgment to concentrate your efforts to what best serves your needs. If you come across someone’s work that doesn’t fit your particular needs then click the back button or keep on searching.
EDIT: thread has been moved to Autopia News & Feedback sub-section.
