Minor hazing after scratch remove - ? on next step

Hey all,

Quick advise question please...

I have a 50th AE Vette, the color is called AE red, but it is in actuality more of a deep red/maroon metallic.

I had been religously using AIO/SG with Pinnacle topper.

I was doing some mechanical work on the car this weekend, and as a result, put in some self inflicted scratches :angry

So, I broke out the PC, and used some 3M PerfectIt II Foam pad polishing glaze on a yellow pad to remove them. Something mild like that, using a cutting pad, made quick work out of them.

But, I have areas now that look cloudy.

I have in my arsenal a white polishing pad, a grey finishing pad, and of course AIO and some Menzerna FP.

I know I'm going to AIOx2 and SGx4 when I'm finished, which I usually do by hand.

To remove the hazing, would AIO with my PC and white or grey pad take care of it? , or should I go with the FP and white or grey pad, then just follow with AIO by hand like usual?.

Any advise?

Thanks for your time

Tim

Kind of hard to say exactly without seeing your paint in person but step down in both pad and product in aggressiveness and see if that works. If not, step up either the pad or the product until you get the hazing out.

Tim A- I wouldn't hesitate to use the FP/polishing pad on the hazing. Since it leaves a ready-to-wax (or in your case, AIO) finish, I don't see a downside. AIO removes some hazing for some people, but most C5s have paint that's too hard for that.

Generally, whenever you use a cutting pad (on your C5's paint), I think you'll need to follow up with something on a polishing pad.

To put a finer point on what I *thinK* Scottwax was saying- if the FP doesn't get it out with the polishing pad, go back to your PI-II with a polishing pad, then use the FP/polishing pad again. Hard to say if it's too big a jump between PI-II/cutting and FP/polishing.

Thanks guys, I'll try that this evening, go with the FP and polish pad. Since it's only a light hazing/cloudy appearance, I would think that would do the trick.

Thanks much! :)

Just wanted to post an update. I went over the car last night with FP and polishing pad, and it turned out beautiful. No cloudy or haziness whatsoever. I did by AIOx2, and will start hitting it with the SG tonight.

Thank again for the advice!! :)
